The newsletters document information that Habitat for Humanity disseminated to its staff, volunteers, and the general public
from its formative years on into the 21st century. The older portion of these periodicals represent some of the earliest documents
in the Habitat for Humanity records. They provide insight into the development and operation of Koinonia Farm (now Koinonia
Partners) and how Habitat for Humanity grew out of this small, interracial, Christian farming community in Sumter County,
Georgia. The Koinonia newsletters also report on the intimidation and violence directed toward the farm--peaking in the late
1950s--because of its interracial status. Beginning in 1976, the periodicals focus on Habitat for Humanity as an established
organization through publications like Habitat Happenings, Habitattler, Habitat World, and Habichat. New issues of Habitat
World are continually added to the collection as they are published and received. Some of these newsletters share information
about the internal operations of Habitat for an audience of volunteers and staff, while others report on major projects and
events for a general readership.

South Georgia's agricultural economy from the end of Reconstruction to the early 1980s. Initial success in land speculation,

The collection consists of biographical information, correspondence, writings, photographs, printed material and scrapbooks.
There is much correspondence between "Howie" Holder and his wife and family during World War II. One group of letters from
Clementi to her husband while he was a POW were found in the prison camp 40 years after the war and returned to them. In
1995 Holder wrote a book about his POW experiences titled Escape to Russia.
Of special interest are letters between Clementi Lacey-Baker and Anton Frederik van Dam (1920-1976) in the Netherlands. They
were both 18 years old in 1938 when they began a pen pal relationship. They continued to be friends until his death in 1976.
One of his letters was listed in the 1972 Guiness Book of World Records as the longest letter ever written. It was begun
in 1940 and ended in 1945, and gave details about the German invasion of his country and the effect on his family. Years
later Clementi transcribed this 514 page letter and titled it "Dear Clem."

school. The majority of the collection is comprised of correspondence (1843-1846) between Hunter and his fiancee and later
wife Sarah R. Golding while he served in the 2nd Cavalry (Dragoons) of the U.S. Army, particularly during the Mexican War.
His early letters discuss mostly their budding romance, but later letters describe camp conditions, travel to Mexico, the
Mexican countryside, and engagements of his unit. Includes letters from the Augusta Arsenal (Ga.), Fort Columbus (N.Y.), Fort
Jessup, Corpus Christi (Tex.), and Camargo (Mexico) with details on the Battle of Palo Alto and Reseca de la Palma (May 1846).
The collection contains some official military correspondence such as orders, memos and correspondence documenting the actions
of John E. Wool, Zachary Taylor, Irvin McDowell, William Joseph Hardee, and John S. Wood.
The papers also include diaries kept by Hunter from October 1-15, 1846 discussing his trip to Mexico and another from February
21 - March 12, 1848 describing his command of American troops near Monterrey (Mexico); and a diary kept by Sarah G. Hunter
from 1848-1849 mainly describing Athens (Ga.) social life and the death of her husband.
