The collection consists of papers of Kate Harben Jones from 1922-1947. Includes corrected typescripts of Jones' essays, short stories, and reminiscences; photographs of the Jones family; correspondence; and v-mail. Most of the correspondence (1933-1945) consists of letters to Jones from her son, Herbert F. Jones, during his military service in World War II. Herbert wrote from Fort Riley (Kan.), Camp Gordon (Ga.), Fort Dix (N.J.), and Fort Pierce (Fla.) describing his military training, military service clubs, and the local areas. After being shipped overseas (1944), Herbert wrote from England, Germany, and France describing the area, the people and their reaction to American military troops, the Normandy invasion, reconnaissance patrols, wounds he received, his medical treatment, and military activity after Germany's surrender. The correspondence also contains letters to Kate Jones from other family members and literary acquaintances.

The materials include account books, correspondence, deeds, diaries, indentures, land grants, letter books, and minute books. Topics covered include the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, slavery, the Salzburgers, and Native American tribes in Georgia. The collection contains papers of John M. Berrien; William H. Crawford; John Forsyth; Williams Gibbons; Charles Harris; Herschel V. Johnson; James Wright; the Bosomworth, Habersham, and Houstoun families; as well as numerous other Georgians. Of particular interest are records (1861-1863) of the Consulate of Great Britain in Georgia during the Civil War; an account book (1818) of Dr. Lewis H. Feurth containing the date, name of patient, treatment, and payment; a diary (1733) of Peter Gordon describing life in Georgia and relations with the Indians; a diary (ca. 1714-1763) of Caleb Davis pertaining to his trading activities in Georgia with the English and Spanish; and a letter book (1804-1806) of William Woodbridge documenting his import/export business and the difficulties of trading with Europe and England during the Napoleonic Wars.

I.," dated April 1918, in which King George V of England welcomes soldiers "to take your stand beside the armies of many Nations now fighting in the Old World the great battle for human freedom." The collection also includes a photocopy of a document explaining how a letter of King George V "was reproduced, and copies still plague many of the unwary."

The collection consists of records of the Athens (Ga.) Klan #5 of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) from 1921-1930. The records include correspondence, newsletters, minutes, quarterly reports, membership cards, dues records, recommendation cards, receipts, and forms for robe requisitions relating to the activities of the Athens KKK #5. The correspondence (1921-1929) contains letters to the Klan asking for financial assistance, thank-yous for assistance rendered, as well as official correspondence, some from national KKK headquarters on membership standings, meetings, induction ceremonies, and recruitment. The correspondence also discusses Georgia politics, especially the 1926 gubernatorial election. The minutes (1925-1926) document Klan meetings and contain information on dues paid, elections, social events or official ceremonies, help for the needy, and investigations of new or current members.

The collection consists of materials relating to the Ku Klux Klan circa 1865-1921. Early materials include one Ku Klux Klan notice (Union County, Georgia, circa 1865), decorated with coffins, daggers and rifles, mentioning the "ghosts of the martyred dead" avenging their death on the living; two handwritten warnings (circa 1870, unsigned) stating "Beware!", and "dead men tell no tales"; and reproductions of three warning letters addressed to B.D. Evans, Col. Evans, and one not addressed (Headquarters, Ogeechee, Georgia, circa 1871), signed KKK and U.S. KK, promising death to radicals, and that radicals involved in Governor Bullocks politics will not survive in Washington County, Georgia. Also includes an Invisible Empire of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan of Atlanta, Georgia application form, circa 1921; an article titled "A Nightgown Tyranny", written by William G. Shepherd ("Leslie's Weekly, Sept. 10, 1921") discussing the re-emergence of the KKK; a reprint of an article titled "Protest Under the Cross: The Ku Klux Klan Presents its Case to the Public, 1960" by Donald E. Williams; and a pamphlet titled "The Attitude of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan Toward the Jew" by H. W. Evans, Imperial Wizard Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.
