Collection Description

Historical Note

The Knights Templar, a masonic organization whose predecessors were soldiers fighting for the Christian faith during the crusades and other religious wars, was established in the United States in 1816. The Georgia Grand Commandery was organized on April 12, 1860.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of records of the Office of the Grand Commandery of the Knights Templar of Georgia from 1896-1902. The correspondence, addressed to Earnest A. Cutts while he held the office of Grand Commander, mainly pertains to arrangements for the 28th Triennial Conclave of the Knights Templar held in Louisville, Kentucky on August 27-31, 1901. The collection also contains correspondence regarding temple business, applications for membership, and a visitor's register for the August meeting.
