Paul Brown Family Papers, circa 1880s-1994, bulk 1941-1961

The Paul Brown Family Papers are composed primarily of photographs of and correspondence between members of Brown's immediate family--Congressman Brown, his wife Frances, and his two children Robert ("Bobby") and Rosalyn. It includes a selection of Brown's speeches while serving in Congress from 1933-1961, Robert's letters to home during World War II, and genealogical research compiled by Frances for joining the Daughters of the American Revolution. The collection also contains information about the Congressional War Parents Association (of which Brown was a member) and the former Bobby Brown State Park, named in honor of Robert, who served aboard the U.S.S. Scorpion and was lost at sea in 1944.

In 1942 during the early stages of World War II, Walter S. Brown, Director of the Georgia Cooperative Extension at the University of Georgia, sent out a letter stating "we are anxious to keep in close touch with all Extension Workers in the armed forces... I am asking you to send me your present address... [and] I would apprreciate your writing us a few paragraphs telling us of your particular duties and anything you think the other Extension men in the service and at home would like to hear about you.. We plan to send a letter regularly to every man in the service telling him something of what we are trying to do back home and of what all of your are doing for Victory in the armed forces."

The Art Rosenbaum Oral History Series includes six interviews with Art Rosenbaum, interviewed by Craig Breaden in Athens, Georgia. Rosenbaum (born 1938) is an art professor emeritus at the University of Georgia, an artist, musician, and folklorist. In 2008, he won a Grammy award for Best Historical Album for his music collection Art of Field Recording Volume I: Fifty Years of Traditional American Music Documented by Art Rosenbaum (released in November 2007). In these interviews, Rosenbaum talks about collecting and recording songs, the history behind some of the tracks on his 2007 music collection, and the response after the collection was released.

The collection consists of correspondence from the 1930s to the 1990s, clippings about Birchmore, photographs of Birchmore, and a bound volume of magazines which contain cartoon versions of Birchmore's trip around the world on a bike. The oversized folder includes signs from Birchmore's experience as an Olympic torch bearer and a proclamation from Governor Zill Miller about the Kiwanis Club's 75th anniversary.
