The collection consists of two diaries of Berry Benson from 1861-1865. Benson writes about the battle of Fredericksburg, Virginia; his capture in Spotsylvania, Virginia; imprisonment and escape from Elmira Prison, New York; and other events in Maryland and Georgia. People Benson mentions include Blackwood "Bob" Benson, Frank Champion, Mike Duffy, and General Bradley Johnson. The collection also includes a manuscript written by Benson entitled "A Confederate Sergeant's Adventures."
