The Association of Scientific Information Dissemination Centers (ASIDIC) was founded in 1968 and its purpose was to foster, encourage, and improve research, development, production, processing, storage, retrieval, dissemination, and use of machine-readable information and data. In 1968, a number of centers that utilized CAS-produced magnetic tape data bases were brought together in Columbus, Ohio, at the request of the Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS). Charter members of ASIDIC included centers at Eastman Kodak Company, IIT Research Institute, the University of Pittsburg, the University of Georgia, the Dow Chemical Company, and the National Science Library of Canada.
On June 30, 2010, ASIDIC merged into the National Federation of Advanced Information Services (NFAIS).
