The collection consists of three scrapbooks kept by Eliza MacKay Elliott. They contain newspaper clippings concerning the Civil War. Two of the scrapbooks were originally composition books. The third was an account book dated 1860 and was kept by M.C. Elliott. The clippings have been removed from this volume and are in folders.

The collection consists of files on the International Federation of University Women, national AAUW, state AAUW and its bylaws, legislative programs, and the Athens branch. Included are the Athens Branch's history, presidents' and treasurers' reports, minutes, newsletters, bylaws, yearbooks, awards, information on the Educational Foundation, various funds, membership, and a scrapbook dated 1983-2001. Also included are several AAUW journals.

The collection consists of an account book with recipes for dentistry, and two diaries with content covering the Civil War during 1862-1865, written by Asbury L. Stephens of the 81st Ohio Infantry. The collection also includes a letter from Alice Crews to her sister and two photographs of Stephens.

McWhorter family papers, 1859-1998

Abstract Or Scope:

The collection consists of letters, photographs, biographical information, writings, friendship album (Mary McWhorter), account book (James Hamilton McWhorter, Jr.), and information on family reunions and the family cemetery in Oglethorpe County. Most of the letters were written by the McWhorter brothers to their parents and sisters during the Civil War. Their company moved through many Virginia locations, such as Chancellorsville, Orange Court House, Spotsylvania Court House, Madison Run Station, and Petersburg, where Robert McWhorter was killed in battle on June 20, 1864. There are also several pre-war letters from James McWhorter while he was a student at the University of Georgia. A set of typescripts is included for many of the letters dated 1859-1865. The later correspondence deals mainly with genealogy research done by McWhorter Milner, son of Mary McWhorter Milner. In addition to photographs of the family and the family cemetery, there are three of Grady Memorial Hospital staff in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. W. Hal Moncrief, a friend of McWhorter Milner, was a doctor at the hospital and is in one of the photographs.

The collection consists of papers of William Lewis Coleman, Jr. and the Coleman family of Devereux, Hancock County, Georgia from 1878-1911 and includes correspondence between various family members including William Lewis Coleman, his wife Katie Amoss Coleman, and their children Henry A. Coleman, Eliza T. Coleman, and Alma Coleman (while living in Atlanta, Ga.) mainly discussing family and business matters. The collection contains information regarding William Lewis Coleman's general merchandise business including bills, receipts, and some correspondence. The collection also contains school work, advertising brochures of merchandise goods, and leaflets.

Mangham family papers, 1849-1888

The collection consists of receipts and printed items, but the majority is correspondence. Of particular interest are letters written by Willoughby Hill Mangham while serving with Company I of the 11th Georgia Infantry Regiment to his father, John Grier Mangham. Written from Virginia, Mangham discusses the Battle of 1st Bull Run, fighting at Yorktown, troop movements, and the Emancipation Proclamation. Other correspondents include Solomon R. Mangham, John Mangham, and H.H. Hill whose letters discuss cotton sales, the attack on Harper's Ferry, and abolition.
