The Reflections on Georgia Politics Oral History Collection consists of interviews with politically prominent Georgians conducted by Bob Short since 2007. Interviewees include former governors, members of both the U.S. and Georgia Congresses, secretaries of state, lobbyists, journalists, lawyers, activists, and relatives of prominent politicians. Included with these oral histories are a few public programs recorded at Young Harris College in 2006-2007. Most interviews were recorded in the homes and offices of interviewees or in the Bob Short Oral History Studio at the University of Georgia. The conversations cover many topics at the intersection of politics and public life in modern Georgia, with a particular strength in gubernatorial contests, the Civil Rights movement, reapportionment, the development of Atlanta, the rise of the Republican party in Georgia, political journalism, and the interaction between religion and politics.

The collection consists of the papers of Mack F. Mattingly from 1956 to 2023, including correspondence, clippings, press releases, speeches, printed materials, photographs, audiotapes, and videotapes. The press files include mainly speeches, press releases, and clippings. Records relating to office administration contain telelphone logs, appointment books, schedule books, guest books, accepted and declined invitations files, files of office staff, and general files that consist of weekly and monthly reports from regional representatives in Georgia. The legislative files include subject files pertaining to legislation being considered by Congress, bill files, Mattingly's voting records from 1981 through 1987, and his personal legislative files, which contain legislative topics of particular interest to the Senator. These materials document Mattingly's work on legislation relating to the line-item veto, anti-drug measures, tax policy, trade policy, agriculture policy, and the conservative economic and federal defense budget policy. Of particular interest are records relating to Mattingly's work as chair of the Subcommittee on Military Construction Appropriations, which included aid to the "Contras" in Nicaragua, his tenure on the Ethics Committee while it investigated the ABSCAM bribery scandal, and legislation that reduced expenditures on consultants and studies by the government. The records of the constituent services staff consist primarily of issue correspondence containing information on constituents' views and questions about current events or public issues. The scrapbooks (1979-1985) were compiled by the Senator's family and staff which record highlights of the Senator's political career and campaigns. Also included are journals and letters written by Carolyn Mattingly.

Papers document Judge Morgan's thirty-five-year judicial career with the United States District Court, 1961-1968, and the United States Fifth and Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, 1968-1996. Includes case files (typically opinions, briefs, judicial memoranda, reports, administrative forms and correspondence), dockets, bench books, case indexes, correspondence, printed opinions, committee files, charge books and notes, newsclippings, photographs, and maps. Of note are Judge Morgan's files relating to highly publicized cases, such as Wallace Butts v. Curtis Publishing Company, civil rights cases heard in District Court in Georgia and the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits, and materials relating to the split of the Fifth Circuit into the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits in 1981.

These papers contain mainly correspondence between Ina Russell and her husband, Richard B. Russell, Sr. and their son, Richard B. Russell, Jr., as well as other family members. The letters exchanged with Judge Russell and Senator Russell frequently contain commentary on political developments nationwide and in Georgia. The collection also includes family scrapbooks, books, newspaper clippings saved by Mrs. Russell, photographs, and a selection of stereo slides. The papers give an in-depth look at the social activities and mores of a large family at the turn of the twentieth century and contain information regarding Mrs. Russell's selection as Georgia's Mother of the Year and her work within the Presbyterian Church. Additional family photographs can be found in Subgroup D: Winder Papers of the Richard B. Russell, Jr. Collection. Ina Dillard Russell, Sr.'s letters also appear elsewhere in the Russell Family Collection, as well as in the Papers of Judge Russell and Senator Russell. Several of these letters have been published in the book Roots and Ever Green, edited by Sally Russell.
