Russell Library for Political Research and Studies partnered with Historic Athens to support and preserve the Facebook Live-streamed public history initiative which aims to bring awareness to communities and connect generations with their heritage, as well as to preserve a fuller history of Athens, through remote interviews on Facebook. This collection includes interviews with members of Athens' Black community documenting the modern history of Athens neighborhoods, music, art, restaurants, politics, religion, and society.

Bob Short is a journalist and writer who has been closely involved with Georgia politics since the 1950s. The audiovisual materials in his collection include films documenting Marvin Griffin's tenure as governor in the 1950s, Griffin's 1962 gubernatorial campaign against Carl Sanders, recordings documenting the States' Rights Councin in Georgia in the 1950s, and "A Visit with the Governor," a series of weekly addresses by then-Gov. Jimmy Carter that were recorded for broadcast in 1973-75.

Charles Robert "Bob" Short is a native of Clayton, GA. He served in various capacities in the administrations of Governors Marvin Griffin, Ernest Vandiver, and Carl Sanders, as well as Jimmy Carter's 1966 gubernatorial campaign. He later served as Governor Lester Maddox's press secretary, and as a political consultant to both Zell Miller and Johnny Isakson. He created the Reflections on Georgia Politics lecture series at Young Harris College, which later became the Reflections on Georgia Politics Oral History series in partnership with the Richard B. Russell Library. This collections contains speeches, newsletters, and assorted campaign memorabilia from Jimmy Carter, Zell Miller, Lester Maddox, and Carl Sanders.

The Reflections on Georgia Politics Oral History Collection consists of interviews with politically prominent Georgians conducted by Bob Short since 2007. Interviewees include former governors, members of both the U.S. and Georgia Congresses, secretaries of state, lobbyists, journalists, lawyers, activists, and relatives of prominent politicians. Included with these oral histories are a few public programs recorded at Young Harris College in 2006-2007. Most interviews were recorded in the homes and offices of interviewees or in the Bob Short Oral History Studio at the University of Georgia. The conversations cover many topics at the intersection of politics and public life in modern Georgia, with a particular strength in gubernatorial contests, the Civil Rights movement, reapportionment, the development of Atlanta, the rise of the Republican party in Georgia, political journalism, and the interaction between religion and politics.
