Papers from 1858-1865 relate to Hanvey's service as captain of the Newnan Guards, later known as Company A of the 1st Georgia Infantry Regiment, including letters regarding its organization; a letter to South Carolina Governor G. W. Gist offering their services should South Carolina secede; a note from Governor Joseph E. Brown instructing Hanvey to rendezvous at Macon, Georgia on March 20, 1861; a letter to General Braxton Bragg desiring to attach his company to the Artillery at Warrington, Florida; a muster roll of the Newnan Guards; a circular from Harvey to W.L. Beadle regarding the bombardment of Ft. Sumter; and Harvey's oath of allegiance. Papers dating 1880-1889 contain letters with reminiscences of company members to be read at the reunion of the Newnan Guards.

The collection consists of one manuscript (probably a copy) of certain Proposals of law (Capitulos Geraes) submitted to King John IV of Portugal, in the Cortes of Lisbon in the year 1641, with his answer (which became law), published in Lisbon on September 12, 1642, the second year of the reign of His Majesty and 38th of his age. These laws are relative to the right of succession to the throne. Other provisions concern the nationality of princes and princesses.

The collection consists of miscellaneous papers of Eugene Muse Mitchell, including a letter (1887), receipt for his first office rent, promissory note (1881), autograph album, report cards from Means High School (1881-1882), reports from the University of Georgia (1882-1885), clippings related to the Mitchell family, two pages of a debate "Whether the Crusades were Beneficial to Europe," (this was the topic debated on May 27, 1881, by the Phi Kappa Society at the University of Georgia). There is a Phi Beta Kappa Society, Alpha Chapter of Georgia certificate dated 1914.There are also three samples of cotton from the Atlanta Cotton Exposition of 1881 labeled as to origin and each is wrapped in a broadside listing the candidates for Alderman and councilmen in the five wards (of Atlanta?). Thirteen photographs including a group photo of UGA law school class of 1885.
