The collection consists of an autograph manuscript copy of Dan Emmett's song "Dixie land," which was written on 22 February 1899 at Conshocton, Ohio. The recto comprises voice and chorus for the minstrel arrangement while the verso lists the lyrics for five stanzas. This copy has words only; there is no musical notation. (21 1/2 X 26 1/2 cm.) Accompanying the sheet is the quill pen used to make the copy. In addition, the collection contains clippings, off-prints, brochures, and photocopies of other materials relating to Emmett and his famous work. There is also an early recording of "Dixie" by Mabel Garrison and the Victor Male Quartet for Victoria Records.

Richard B. Russell, Jr. Oral History Project includes The collection consists of 175 oral history interviews relating to the personal and political life of Richard B. Russell. Interviewees include members of the Russell family, his staff and interns, other senators and public figures, and friends. The primary interviewer was Hugh Cates, a public relations manager at Southern Bell and secretary of the Russell Foundation (1977-1981). Most of the interviews were recorded between 1971 and 1979, but the majority during 1971 after Senator Russell's death. Other interviewers outside of the Russell Foundation Oral History Project include: William Stueck, Karen Kelly, Barboura Raesly, Robert G. Stephens, Jr., Dwight L. Freshley, Tom Jackson, Angus Hepburn, and Russell Library staff. Interviews provide insight into Senator Russell's political career as State Representative, Governor, and U.S. Senator, his views on various topics such as civil rights and Vietnam, and his personality and family life. The collection consists of copies of documents, textual and audio, accumulated during Thomas M. West's successful challenge - in the case of Timothy Dawson vs. The State of Georgia - to the state of Georgia's law prescribing death by electrocution in the electric chair in death penalty cases. This includes fifteen digital copies of 22 Georgia electrocutions of prisoners between 1983 and 1996. These recordings are copies of West's tapes which were themselves dubs of original tapes recorded by members of the state's Department of Corrections for their own records, and later subpoenaed and entered into state court records as part of challenges to the electric chair statute. In addition, the collection includes copies of materials (transcripts, documents, affidavits, autopsy records, etc.) West and his co-counsel Robert Citronberg had accumulated to date of donation (August 2004) in support of legal challenges to the Georgia statute prescribing lethal injection as the new means of state execution.

D. W. Brooks was a major figure in American agriculture. He was the founder and leader of Gold Kist, a farm cooperative, for almost fifty years and also served as an agricultural advisor to several U.S. Presidents. This collection consists primarily of oral history interviews with D.W. Brooks conducted by Brian S. Wills. D.W. Brooks discusses his family background, his childhood in Royston, Ga., his education, and his involvement with the Methodist church. He speaks extensively about topics related to farming and agriculture in Georgia, including the founding and development of Gold Kist, the poultry industry, fish and cattle production, cotton farming, and the federal government's involvement with farming co-ops. Brooks also discusses his contribution as an agricultural advisor to United States presidents and world leaders. Complimentary interviews in this collection with individuals such as former President Jimmy Carter and Secretary of State Dean Rusk provide additional perspectives on Brooks and his contributions.

D. W. Brooks (1901-1999) was a farmer and cooperative executive, running the Cotton Producers Association (later renamed Gold Kist) as well as insurance companies for farmers. His papers document his businesses and Georgia agriculture, as well as his service to the U.S. government, several universities, and the Methodist Church. The papers include correspondence, business and committee reports, meeting materials, and subject files.

The collection consists of 172 oral history interviews with Dean Rusk and his colleagues between 1984-1989. Includes audiotapes and transcriptions documenting Rusk's life from early childhood in the 1910's through his teaching career in the 1980's. The interviews contain information on Rusk's service as U.S. Under Secretary and Secretary of State during the administrations of Presidents Truman, Kennedy, and Johnson and his involvement in foreign relations including the Korean War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Vietnam War. The interviews also document his position as president of the Rockefeller Foundation in the 1950s.

The collection represents the contributions of the Snyders and their daughter, Cherie, through papers, publications, awards, artifacts and images. In addition to documenting their work, many of the materials offer a unique view of life in contemporary Africa and the efforts of agricultural extension and development in the Northwestern part of that continent. Many of the artifacts were created by artisans from around the world, from Tifton to Ouagadougou, and given to the Snyders in thanks for their efforts promoting international development projects. These materials were displayed in conjunction the Darl Snyder Lecture in 2004. At that time the Snyders toured the exhibit with Dr. Lioba Moshi, Director of the UGA African Studies Institutes. A transcription of their remarks regarding the significance or history of various artifacts can be found in folder 20 of box 1. In addition we have placed their comments with the description of items in the list below, identifying the speaker by their initials, D.S. or F.S. for Darl or Florence Snyder.

Contains copies of the conservative civil rights journal The Citizen (1975-1983), which contains articles contributed by Harris. The collection also includes personal scrapbooks (1945-1946; 1956-1969); a videotaped interview with Harris, in which he discusses his service with the state legislature and the Board of Regents, the growth of the Medical College of Georgia, and Augusta politics; and audio taped interviews with Harris in which he discusses Georgia politics, education in Georgia, and his thoughts on Huey Long and Tom Watson.
