The collection consists of papers of Samuel Pinckney Thurmond from ca. 1817-1913. The bulk of the collection (1845-1861) is
comprised of correspondence pertaining to Thurmond's private law practice and court administration as Solicitor General. Personal
correspondents include M.M. Sheats of Watkinsville (Ga.) and his brother John D. Thurmond of Coweta County (Ga.), both which
discuss family news. Of particular interest are letters from his ward, John R. North, who served in the 16th Georgia Infantry
Regiment in Virginia, which discuss the battles of Fair Oaks and Malvern Hill.
The collection also includes genealogical material on the Long and Ware families, newspaper clippings and programs relating
to the career of Crawford Williamson Long, and photographs of the Thurmond and Long families.

The collection consists of genealogy, correspondence, writings, photographs, daguerreotypes, and printed material. The early
correspondence concerns the LeConte, Furman and Carter families. More recent correspondence is of Carolyn Shaw McMillan, a
great granddaughter of Emma Florence LeConte Furman. Much of this correspondence deals with efforts to preserve LeConte-Woodmanston
and to reconstruct the botanical garden. In 1973 the site was placed on the National Register of Historic Places, and of the
original 3,354 acres, 63.8 acres were deeded to the Garden Club of Georgia in 1977. Most of the writings are by Emma Florence
LeConte Furman, who kept diaries for many years, and also wrote of her travels and her family.

from other hereditary and service organizations that Ms. LaCavera was involved with are also included. Another component of
this collection is historical documents from the early Nineteeth Century, including deeds, correspondence, receipts, checks
and land documents from the Kunze and Johnson families of Georgia, as well as the Ballister family from Kentucky, among others.

The collection consists of papers of Edgeworth Bird and the Bird family from 1806, 1835-1949. The papers include correspondence,
clippings, photographs (ca. 1848-1900) of the Bird family, a commonplace book (1843-1848) of Sallie C. Baxter containing extracts
from her readings, an autograph book, an 1806 diary (author unknown) describing activities in Hancock and surrounding counties
in Georgia, and genealogies of the Baxter, Bird, and allied families. Early correspondence (1839-1851) is between members
of the Baxter family including letters between Thomas W. and Mary Baxter discussing his health, taxes, and land values; and
letters from Leroy M. Wiley to Thomas detailing Wiley's trip to England in 1839.
The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence between Bird and Smith family members including Edgeworth Bird, Sallie
Bird, Saida Bird (Smith), Wilson Edgeworth Bird, and Victor Edgeworth Smith. Of particular interest are letters (1856) from
Edgeworth to Sallie describing his visit to New York City, Fire Island (N.Y.), and U.S. politics and letters written between
family members during the Civil War. The Civil War letters from Edgeworth discuss the battles of Gettysburg (Pa.), Richmond
(Va.), 2nd Bull Run (Va.), Chickamauga, the Atlanta Campaign, and Sherman's March through Georgia. The letters also detail
the management of Granite Farm (Hancock County, Ga.), slavery, and Saida's studies.

Georgia) and Revolutionary War Major John Habersham. The two family scrapbooks are an engagement and wedding scrapbook of
Flora Middlebrooks Cox and a child's picture scrapbook made by LaNette Hillsman Middlebrooks.

Oglethorpe County, Georgia. There is much emphasis on Savannah, the Wormsloe estate, and Georgia history in both printed material
and photographs. A large section of the financial papers concerns the real estate owned by the Barrows in Savannah and details
the sale, rental, and management of the properties.

are mainly by Lollie Belle Wylie and include a detailed memoir of her life in the city of Atlanta. The financial papers are
primarily promissory notes and receipts of the Ellis family. Some of the sheet music in the collection was composed by Lollie
Belle Wylie.

The bulk of this collection contains the papers of Minnie Branham Stonestreet, a writer for the Works Progress Administration's
Federal Writers' Project during the Great Depression. It includes her notes and drafts for a guidebook of Washington, Georgia;
oral histories; and some notes on her work as a genealogist. Also of note are the papers of Luke and Eliza Turner, parents
of Mary Mattox. Luke Turner served as a state representative of Wilkes County from 1838-1839.
