Marvin McClatchey Jr. (1916-2002), son of Marvin McClatchey (1886-1939) and Juliet Neel McClatchey (1885-1960), and Sally Bruce Blackford McClatchey (1922-2015) are the main focus of the genealogical compilation. Various research files trace the McClatchey line back to John McClatchey from Ireland in the mid-18th century, but original documents are not present until reaching files from the late 19th century. The collection consists of papers of James Daniel Frederick and the Frederick family from 1844-1899, 1942. The bulk of the collection consists of diaries and account books of James D. Frederick. The diaries (1844-1856 and 1873-1899) contain entries describing Frederick's student life at the University of Georgia, a few minutes and the constitution of the Washingtonian Temperance Society of Franklin College, and entries pertaining to crop conditions, weather, and farming practices for Frederick's farm in Marshallville, Macon County, Georgia. Entries for the period 1873-1889 are sparse and usually are recorded once a year. The account books (1873, 1875-1878, 1880-1882, and 1888-1892) include occasional notes but mainly record items purchased for operating the farm. The collection also contains a diary (January - April 1882) of Eugene Frederick pertaining to the operation of his farm; a typescript of THE KEENE FAMILY containing photographs, genealogical charts, and clippings; and the original mockup for THE RUMPH-FREDERICK FAMILIES including correspondence, photographs, clippings, and genealogical charts. The genealogical material was collected by Louise Frederick Hays.

This collection contains the business and personal records of the Hand family of Pelham, Georgia and reflects the status of South Georgia's agricultural economy from the end of Reconstruction to the early 1980s. Initial success in land speculation, farming, and timber and turpentine production during the late 19th to early 20th centuries led Judson Larrabee (J. L.) Hand to establish the Hand Trading Company, a company that would become southwest Georgia's largest mercantile business and spur his expansion into banking, railroads, textiles, and fertilizer manufacture. The collection is comprised of the deeds, financial records, and correspondence of the Hand family's many businesses; political papers relating to Frederick Barrow Hand, Sr.'s terms in the Georgia General Assembly from 1933 to 1955 and his 1954 gubernatorial primary campaign; photographs of J. L. Hand's businesses, employees, and home, as well as Fred Hand, Sr.'s political career; and Fred Hand, Sr.'s genealogical records.

The collection consists mainly of an autobiography of John Banks written sporadically from 1830-1865. His autobiography outlines his boyhood and family background; service in the Seminole Indian Wars in 1818 in Florida; his involvement in various mercantile businesses in Elbert and Henry counties; his presidency in the Planters & Mechanics' Bank in Columbus; ownership in the Howard Manufacturing Company (textile) in Columbus; the Civil War and his sons', Daniel Watkins, Richard Eugene, and Willis Dunston service in the Confederate Army; and Sherman's march through Georgia. The collection also includes the Banks family bible containing births, deaths, and marriages, and two published works on the Banks and Winstanley families' genealogy.

The collection consists of papers of Samuel Pinckney Thurmond from ca. 1817-1913. The bulk of the collection (1845-1861) is comprised of correspondence pertaining to Thurmond's private law practice and court administration as Solicitor General. Personal correspondents include M.M. Sheats of Watkinsville (Ga.) and his brother John D. Thurmond of Coweta County (Ga.), both which discuss family news. Of particular interest are letters from his ward, John R. North, who served in the 16th Georgia Infantry Regiment in Virginia, which discuss the battles of Fair Oaks and Malvern Hill. The collection also includes genealogical material on the Long and Ware families, newspaper clippings and programs relating to the career of Crawford Williamson Long, and photographs of the Thurmond and Long families.

The collection consists of genealogy, correspondence, writings, photographs, daguerreotypes, and printed material. The early correspondence concerns the LeConte, Furman and Carter families. More recent correspondence is of Carolyn Shaw McMillan, a great granddaughter of Emma Florence LeConte Furman. Much of this correspondence deals with efforts to preserve LeConte-Woodmanston and to reconstruct the botanical garden. In 1973 the site was placed on the National Register of Historic Places, and of the original 3,354 acres, 63.8 acres were deeded to the Garden Club of Georgia in 1977. Most of the writings are by Emma Florence LeConte Furman, who kept diaries for many years, and also wrote of her travels and her family.

A large portion of the collection documents Ms. LaCavera's time with these organizations. It also contains notes, genealogy, and writing produced by Tommie LaCavera and her contemporary, Beth Abney. Documents and printed material from other hereditary and service organizations that Ms. LaCavera was involved with are also included. Another component of this collection is historical documents from the early Nineteeth Century, including deeds, correspondence, receipts, checks and land documents from the Kunze and Johnson families of Georgia, as well as the Ballister family from Kentucky, among others.
