The collection consists of papers of George M. Hanvey. Papers from 1858-1865 relate to Hanvey's service as captain of the Newnan Guards, later known as Company A of the 1st Georgia Infantry Regiment, including letters regarding its organization; a letter to South Carolina Governor G. W. Gist offering their services should South Carolina secede; a note from Governor Joseph E. Brown instructing Hanvey to rendezvous at Macon, Georgia on March 20, 1861; a letter to General Braxton Bragg desiring to attach his company to the Artillery at Warrington, Florida; a muster roll of the Newnan Guards; a circular from Harvey to W.L. Beadle regarding the bombardment of Ft. Sumter; and Harvey's oath of allegiance. Papers dating 1880-1889 contain letters with reminiscences of company members to be read at the reunion of the Newnan Guards.

Knight, from Richmond and Winchester, Virginia, and Chatham County, Georgia (1862-1863). Also included are correspondences from Mathew A. Knight, Thomas J. Knight, E. P. Davis and Solomon Walker. Correspondents write from locations near Orange Courthouse, Fredericks Hall and Guiney Station, Virginia, and Savannah, Georgia; about family matters, weather, rumors, and positions. The collection also includes military papers and passes of Jesse C. Knight, and handwritten papers regarding the Estate of L. J. Knight.

The collection consists of correspondence from Thomas J. Gurr to Sophronia Thompson (later Mrs. Thomas J. Gurr) from 1864-1866. Two of the letters were written while Thomas was serving in the 51st Georgia Infantry Regiment in Russellville, Tennessee and near Richmond, Virginia. Also included is a letter to Sophronia from her cousin (October 8, 1864), A. William Murray, of the 6th Georgia Infantry Regiment near Richmond, Virginia. Documents dated 1916-1921 include Gurr family genealogy.

The collection consists of an inventory of the estate of Elizabeth Sewall and four letters. Two letters are the correspondence of Paul H. Langdon: one to his fiancee (Elizabeth Sewall) regarding his chances of advancement, quotes from a diary he has found, and obtaining leave for their wedding; and one from Brigham Young concerning a mule that strayed from Fort Laramie and might show up in Salt Lake City. A third letter, addressing "My dear Susie", is not signed or dated, regards genealogy of Lagardee, and states that Anne Lagardee becomes Mrs. Joseph Clay. A final letter addressing "My dear cousin Sarah," was written by Thomas Cumming. The letter is dated August 18, 1838, written aboard United States Navy Ship Relief, the day it departed from Hampton Roads on an expedition to Rio de Janeiro to explore and describe the resources of the islands. The letter speaks of further orders to return through the North West Coast as far as the Columbia River, and to survey islands in the Pacific, Indian Ocean, South Seas, and the Coast of Japan.

Papers of Helen Forbes Ross include correspondence, newspaper clippings, and photographs pertaining to Ross' marriage, theatrical career and charitable work, most notably the Woman's Christian Temperance Union. The collection also includes photographs and newspaper clippings of George Lester Forbes, Walter T. Forbes II, Walter T. Forbes III, and Chef Carson Gulley.

The collection also contains a letter to Jordan from his uncle, Joshua Hill, U.S. House of Representatives; from Colonel Robert A. Smith, commander of the 44th Regiment; and a letter to Nancy Jordan from J. J. DuBarry, informing Nancy of the death of her brother, Henry Dillon, in battle.

A letter from Mary Kinsland to Joshua Kinsland dated August 11, 1863. The letter describes life at home during the Civil War. In the letter, Mary Kinsland states, "We have mity dry weather hear ..." and gangs of men are going about pressing cattle, they "take pore peoples cattle as well as the rich." She hasn't sold the "brandie" yet, but "some sayes thear is talk of men coming round to pressing brandie and jist giving 3 dollars a gallon." She thinks she could probably sell it first at $5 a quart "write soon and tell me what you think would be the best to do with it..." "the baby has not grood much since you have bin gone it has bin mity puney this summer and is yet." "...let us know whither thear us any chance of you getting a furlow..."
