The collection consists of clippings from Knox's personal scrapbook, affidavits, letters, manuscript speeches, military documents, and other material. The speeches were likely written during the time he was a teacher in Mississippi, prior to the Civil War. Of particular interest are also two speeches he gave at the Knox Institute (a Freedmen's school named after him) in Athens, Georgia. Also included are materials relating to Knox's family, including letters (many addressed to Clarkston, Michigan), an account book, and photographs.

The collection consists of papers of Henry Pattillo Farrow and Farrow family members from 1855-1937. The papers include correspondence, letter books, newspapers, clippings, printed material, bills, receipts, account books, and photographs. The bulk of the collection relates to Henry Pattillo Farrow and documents his involvement in Republican politics in Georgia during and after Reconstruction; his positions as Georgia Attorney-General, U.S. District Attorney, collector of customs for the Port of Brunswick (Ga.), and as postmaster of Gainesville (Ga.). Materials pertaining to Farrow's administration of the Porter Springs resort Queen of the Mountains include hotel ledgers (1877-1896), account books (1886-1892), registers (1893, 1899), a cash book (1886-1889), a memorandum book (1886-1904), and employees lists (1889-1891). From 1907-1937, the collection consists of business and family correspondence of John A. Whitner (Farrow's son-in-law) and Henry F. Whitner mainly pertaining to the administration of the Queen of the Mountains resort.

The collection consists of papers of Peninah W. Thomas and the Thomas family of Athens (Ga.) from 1821-1959. The papers include correspondence, bills and receipts, account books, legal documents, and sermons (1890s) written by Robert Toombs DuBose. The bills and receipts (1821-1910) contain several receipts for wages paid by Peninah W. Thomas to freedmen. The account books (1834-1845) contain bank accounts of Stevens Thomas and lists of accounts and purchases. The correspondence includes letters (1838-1870) between Peninah W. Thomas and her daughters Ella (Hull), Batavia (Clinch), and Mary (Saffold). The letters mainly contain news of family or friends and social events, but of particular interest are letters from Batavia living in Connecticut during the Civil War. The letters discuss the fall of Ft. Sumter and northerners' inability to understand southern attitudes. Also included are letters from Thomas Reynolds and John Shannon discussing plantation management, the cotton market, and other details of Thomas' business interests. From 1870-1941 letters are between Jennie Stovall (DuBose) and Robert Toombs DuBose, mostly personal but also containing some information on Georgia land sales, his ministry, and service in the Georgia House of Representatives.

The collection consists of the papers of the Baber, Blackshear, and Baber-Blackshear families from 1796-1939 and includes correspondence, journals, ledgers, news clippings, invitations, programs, speeches, and newspapers. The early part of the collection relates to Dr. Ambrose Baber and contains information on the 1802 William Hunter-David Mitchell duel (Savannah, Ga.); Baber's term as Charge'd Affaires to Sardinia, including correspondence from John MacPherson Berrien (1842-1844); and the establishment of the Montpelier Institute in Monroe County, Georgia. The bulk of the collection falls after 1846. It contains correspondence and journals of George Francis Burleigh Baber during his naval service on the John Adams, Germantown, Dale, and Porpoise. Also included is Civil War correspondence consisting of letters from Joseph William Blackshear of Jackson's Artillery from Camp Brown, St. Simons Island, Georgia, as well as George Dunbar Sweet Smith, who served in South Carolina and Virginia. The remainder of the collection consists of personal correspondence between Marion and William Blackshear; their children Ella, Paul, Birdie, and Minnie Baber-Blackshear; relatives; and friends.

Correspondence between Tate family members relates to news of family and friends. Correspondents include Carter Tate, Edna Tate, Philip May Tate, Susan Tate, and William Tate. Earlier materials pertain to Athens businessman Asaph King Childs, including account books, cash books, bills and receipts, correspondence, and timebooks documenting Childs' involvement with or management of the Cliff House (Tallulah Falls, Ga.), Childs & Moss (Athens, Ga.), and Childs, Nickerson & Company (Athens, Ga.). The collection also contains Civil War correspondence between Shatt C. Mitchell of the 13th Georgia Infantry Regiment and his wife Chloe including letters describing the battle of Antietam (Md.). Additional materials include scrapbooks containing clippings relating to Corra Harris.

The collection consists of materials collected by Keith M. Read documenting the history of Georgia from 1732-1905. The materials include account books, correspondence, deeds, diaries, indentures, land grants, letter books, and minute books. Topics covered include the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, slavery and the lives of enslaved persons, the Salzburgers, and Native American tribes in Georgia. The collection contains papers of John M. Berrien; William H. Crawford; John Forsyth; Williams Gibbons; Charles Harris; Herschel V. Johnson; James Wright; the Bosomworth, Habersham, and Houstoun families; as well as numerous other Georgians. Of particular interest are records (1861-1863) of the Consulate of Great Britain in Georgia during the Civil War; an account book (1818) of Dr. Lewis H. Feurth containing the date, name of patient, treatment, and payment; a diary (1733) of Peter Gordon describing life in Georgia and relations with the Indians; a diary (ca. 1714-1763) of Caleb Davis pertaining to his trading activities in Georgia with the English and Spanish; and a letter book (1804-1806) of William Woodbridge documenting his import/export business and the difficulties of trading with Europe and England during the Napoleonic Wars.
