The collection consists of two scrapbooks, one concerning Georgia in general and one on the Atlanta area in particular. Both
books contain newspaper clippings and reproduced photographs. They both seem to herald from the late 1930s and early 1940s.
Both scrapbooks contain information from the 1939-1940 time period about the Civil War.
Book 1 focuses on Georgia and numerous places within the state. It was badly deteriorated so it was dismantled and placed
into two oversized folders within Oversized Box 1. The 107 pages of the scrapbook have persisted into its deconstructed form.
Some of these are images drawn by George Abney, and a good number of others are newspaper articles about events and places
in Georgia. Several seem to overlap with items found in Book 2.
Book 2 concentrates on Atlanta and Georgia materials. It is fully intact and in good condition. The clippings date from 1939
to 1940. Most focus on Atlanta and its commercial and residential areas. However, a good number are about other parts of Atlanta,
such as vacations to parks, restored forts, the tornado that touched down in Albany, and many rural areas where farming was
the main feature (cotton, tobacco, turpentine, and apples are the most prominent crops). Likewise, logging, mining and corn-shucking
appear in the scrapbook. Images and articles about local entertainment and shopping are included. Several debutants and the
Gone with the Wind Premier also feature in this scrapbook.
The rotograuvure set contains some pictures of World War II, a few of World War I, some clippings on Thomas Watson, and also
some of Franklin Delano Roosevelt's visit to the University of Georgia.

During the 1990s, Dalton, Georgia's growing carpet industry brought increasing numbers of Spanish speakers into the region
and the local school system. In 1996, local attorney and former U.S. congressman Erwin Mitchell recognized the need for bilingual
educators in Dalton Public Schools to teach the growing number of non-English speaking students. Mitchell and a small group
of Dalton citizens founded the Georgia Project, a community based non-profit organization, to serve the academic needs of
Latino and Hispanic students, their teachers, and their parents. The Georgia Project developed an exchange program and brought
qualified bilingual teaching assistants from Spanish speaking countries to assist in Dalton Public Schools. The collection
illustrates the partnership that developed between the Georgia Project, University of Monterrey in Mexico, and the City of
Dalton and Whitfield County schools. Committee files, conference and meeting files, general files, and financial records document
the administrative activities of the staff of the Georgia Project. Reference material including clippings, reports, and publications
demonstrate the need in the community for bilingual education and teacher training. The collection includes correspondence,
memoranda, notes, reports, clippings, financial records, statistical reports, publications, photographs, and audiovisual material.

The family papers include genealogy research, correspondence, clippings, photographs, land grants, deeds, wills, diaries and
printed material related to the Gibbs, Wynn/e, Allen, Burns, Chenault, Fisher, and Parker families between 1826-2014. The
Wynne family name has several variations in spelling including Wynne, Wynn, and Winn. In his 1912 article about the Wynn family
reunion, Gus Edwards spells the surname without a final "e." He goes on to write, "In the long ago the family name used to
be spelled with a final 'e,' thus, Wynne, but in later years somehow or other the family began to write simply, W-y-n-n."
The ancestors of Robert Adin Gibbs (1874-1944) and Theola Fisher Parker (1876-1951) encompass the five major family lines
in this collection. The collection also includes an address book, family bible, account book, recipe, receipts, and Civil
War-era letters by various family members including those between Eliza Jane Wynne (1837-1916) and her husband Charles Rollin
Gibbs (1835-1903).

The collection consists of a genuine page from a book called Der Heiligen Leben Passional, or The Golden Legend, by Jacobus
de Voragine, printed by Koberger in Nuremberg in 1488. These illustrations are as a rule anonymous, the names of the engravers
being known only after the year 1500. The blocks of pear wood, on which these designs were cut, were "type high" and set into
the same form with the text and both were inked and printed together. The coloring was done by hand, the style being developed
on the model of the illuminations used as illustrations to the still earlier manuscripts.
