D. W. Brooks was a major figure in American agriculture. He was the founder and leader of Gold Kist, a farm cooperative, for
almost fifty years and also served as an agricultural advisor to several U.S. Presidents. This collection consists primarily
of oral history interviews with D.W. Brooks conducted by Brian S. Wills. D.W. Brooks discusses his family background, his
childhood in Royston, Ga., his education, and his involvement with the Methodist church. He speaks extensively about topics
related to farming and agriculture in Georgia, including the founding and development of Gold Kist, the poultry industry,
fish and cattle production, cotton farming, and the federal government's involvement with farming co-ops. Brooks also discusses
his contribution as an agricultural advisor to United States presidents and world leaders. Complimentary interviews in this
collection with individuals such as former President Jimmy Carter and Secretary of State Dean Rusk provide additional perspectives
on Brooks and his contributions.

a booklet that contains information about mill machinery, bobbins, and production, in addition to keeping mill records. A
safety award given to Whitehall Mills from the Georgia Textile Manufacturers Assocition for 1969 is also included.

The collection consists of an autograph manuscript copy of Dan Emmett's song "Dixie land," which was written on 22 February
1899 at Conshocton, Ohio. The recto comprises voice and chorus for the minstrel arrangement while the verso lists the lyrics
for five stanzas. This copy has words only; there is no musical notation. (21 1/2 X 26 1/2 cm.) Accompanying the sheet
is the quill pen used to make the copy. In addition, the collection contains clippings, off-prints, brochures, and photocopies
of other materials relating to Emmett and his famous work. There is also an early recording of "Dixie" by Mabel Garrison
and the Victor Male Quartet for Victoria Records.

The collection represents the contributions of the Snyders and their daughter, Cherie, through papers, publications, awards,
artifacts and images. In addition to documenting their work, many of the materials offer a unique view of life in contemporary
Africa and the efforts of agricultural extension and development in the Northwestern part of that continent. Many of the artifacts
were created by artisans from around the world, from Tifton to Ouagadougou, and given to the Snyders in thanks for their efforts
promoting international development projects. These materials were displayed in conjunction the Darl Snyder Lecture in 2004.
At that time the Snyders toured the exhibit with Dr. Lioba Moshi, Director of the UGA African Studies Institutes. A transcription
of their remarks regarding the significance or history of various artifacts can be found in folder 20 of box 1. In addition
we have placed their comments with the description of items in the list below, identifying the speaker by their initials,
D.S. or F.S. for Darl or Florence Snyder.

office, and his ambassadorial staff. Campaign files are mostly composed of mailers, flyers, signs, and campaign memorabilia
distributed by the Friends of David Adelman. It includes a full run of newsletters sent to constituents, letters from the
campaign committee, and other correspondence.
Files from the state senate office include both legislative and political files. Legislative files document bills introduced
by Adelman, including the Darfur sanctions bill (SB 170), post-conviction DNA testing bill (SB 119), campus police open records
act (SB 153), and the domestic violence shelter protection act (SB 147). It also includes research materials on legislation
affecting stem cell research, casino gaming, speed limits, and the Georgia corporate code; and records of Senator Adelman's
activities on the Commission on Children, Marriage, and Family Law. Political files are composed mostly of press clippings
and correspondence with advocacy groups and members of the General Assembly.
The ambassadorial papers include documents collected by Adelman and his staff to prepare for his confirmation hearings, trip
files and itineraries, selected speeches, and correspondence with organizations and individuals involced in foreign trade
and finance, including the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperaton (APEC), the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and
the American Chamber of Commerce.

The collection consists of papers of the David Crenshaw Barrow Sr. family of Lexington, Oglethorpe County, Georgia from 1817-1915.
The papers include mainly correspondence, financial records, and diaries. The earliest records consist mostly of receipts
and accounts of David Crenshaw Barrow, Sr. and Middleton Pope. The bulk of the correspondence (1850-1883) is between Barrow
and his children David Crenshaw Barrow, Jr.; Ella Patience Barrow (Spalding); James Barrow; Lucy M. Barrow (Cobb); Middleton
Pope Barrow; and Thomas A. Barrow. Some of James Barrow's correspondence was written while a cadet at West Point and then
later during the Civil War serving first in Cobb's Legion in Virginia and later in the 64th Georgia Infantry Regiment in Florida.
There is also an interesting set of correspondence (ca. 1850-1868) to Barrow from overseers (enslavers) at his plantations
in Oglethorpe and Decatur Counties, Georgia; letters relating to his investment in a Florida salt works during the Civil War;
and letters from John H. Lumpkin and William McKinley regarding the secession of Georgia.
The collection also includes diaries (1851-1852, 1856-1858, 1876, 1879) of David Crenshaw Barrow, Sr. mostly detailing farm
and family life and diaries (1868, 1875) of Clara E. Barrow discussing school and social activities.

This collection mainly documents the Office of the Dean of Women from the years 1946 through 1970. Although most of the collection
pertains to the office under the leadership of Edith Stallings, there is a good deal of material associated with Louise McBee.
Also included is material from the late 1960s and early 1970s related to UGA Dialogue, a conference designed to promote better
communication among University faculty and students, and the National Association of Women Deans and Counselors (NAWDC). Of
particular interest is a wealth of information pertaining to how the Office of the Dean of Women dealt with the 1961 integration
of the University of Georgia. Also of special interest are annual reports which cover the Office of the Dean of Women under
both Edith Stallings and Louise McBee and give a detailed breakdown by year of numerous statistics and facts relating to women
students, housing, staff, and the social mores of the day. Along that same theme, some materials illustrate some of the issues
surrounding young wome's dress and behavior during the 1950s and 1960s.

statements, press releases, and speeches that Dean Rusk gave during his tenure as Secretary of State. Researchers may be interested
in statements by Rusk on the deaths of various famous figures in the world of politics and foreign affairs including President
Herbert Hoover, King Mohamed V of Morocco, Adlai E. Stevenson, Sir Winston Churchill and Robert F. Kennedy. Opening and closing
remarks on numerous foreign relations events, such as the meetings of the US-Japan Committee on Economics and Trade, and the
SEATO [Southeast Asia Collective Defense Treaty] conference in 1961, the Geneva Disarmament Conference in 1962, and meetings
over the Dominican Republic Crisis with the OAS [Organization of American States] in 1965, can also be found here. There are
several copies of congressional testimonies by Dean Rusk given between 1949 and 1979. Also, a small group of files consisting
of articles that Dean Rusk designated for his "personal papers" upon leaving the office of Secretary of State. Topics covered
in these files include Vietnam, the effect of student activism on international relations, the Berlin Crisis of 1961-1964,
the role of analogy in law, Rusk's success over nuclear nonhappening, foreign travel by the Secretary of State, and the National
Academy of Sciences. Certain records relating to the Palestine question were maintained in the offices of Dean Rusk and Robert
McClintock, these records exist on microfilm.

Dean Rusk Personal Papers, Series IX: Audiovisual, contains audio and video recordings documenting the career of Dean Rusk.
The audio recordings range from Rusk's 1961 swearing-in as secretary of state to a 1995 memorial service for Rusk held at
Davidson College. Many recordings are audio tracks of interviews conducted with Rusk for television, including a 1971 interview
with Bill Moyers, a 1971 "Today" interview, appearances on all of the major networks discussing the impending 1972 presidential
election, a 1973 interview with Rusk on the death of Lyndon B. Johnson, and a 1974 interview with William F. Buckley. Additional
recordings include audio tracks for television programs on which Rusk did not appear but which held interest for him: a 1971
news segment on Nikita Khrushchev, a 1972 interview with Johnson by Walter Cronkite for CBS, a 1972 interview with David Halberstam
on "Today," a 1972 interview with Walt and Eugene Rostow conducted by William F. Buckley, and several NBC and ABC specials
concerning Vietnam. Other audio recordings include speeches delivered by Rusk including a 1972 address concerning President
Richard Nixon's trip to China, Rusk's 1973 eulogy for Johnson, a 1974 graduation address to the 55th class of the Armed Forces
Staff College, and a 1983 lecture entitled "The Constitution: Comity or Confrontation." The videotapes in the collection cover
a broad range of subjects, but the bulk of the tapes date from 1983 to 1989 and roughly coincide with Rusk's retirement from
teaching at the University of Georgia. The videotapes range in date from a copy of a March 1962 profile of Dean Rusk by WBTV-TV
in Charlotte , North Carolina to the 1996 dedication of the University of Georgia 's Dean Rusk Hall. Included among the videotapes
is a copy of the CBS News coverage of the Cuban Missile Crisis, Rusk's 1984 deposition in the Westmoreland v. CBS libel case,
a fourteen-tape unedited interview with Dean Rusk conducted in 1985 by Edwin Newman, a thirty-minute documentary on Rusk produced
by the University of Georgia in 1988 called "Conversations with Great Georgians: Dean Rusk," a multi-part series entitled
"The United Nations: Issues of Peace and Conflict" that covers the 1989 Report of the Former Ambassadors to the United Nations,
a three-part interview with Rusk conducted by Kenneth Harris for a BBC series entitled "The Twentieth Century Remembered,"
as well as several other television appearances and interviews that reflect back on Rusk's tenure as secretary of state during
the Kennedy and Johnson administrations and that touch on the topics of the Cuban Missile Crisis, Vietnam, and the Cold War.
Also included in the collection is a silent 16mm home movie from 1945 depicting then Colonel Rusk playing tennis at the palace
of the viceroy (now the residence of the President of India) with friends Colonel Currie, Captain Swain, Lieutenant Plager,
and other unidentified persons.

Secretary of State, and as a faculty member at the University of Georgia School of Law. Of interest to researchers are his
speech note files, which include comments from the 1950s on U.S. actions in the Far East and Southeast Asia, the Japanese
Peace Treaty, Korea, concepts of Cold War strategy, parliamentary democracy, and U.S. policy toward Europe's non-NATO commitments.
In 1981-1982 the British Broadcasting Corporation did a series on the "Twentieth Century Remembered" for which Dean Rusk was
interviewed. Other interviews include Rusk's reflections on issues of foreign policy and the future of international relations.
The working files of Richard Rusk for As I Saw It, the autobiography/biography he wrote for his father, Dean Rusk, include
research materials, drafts, and reviews. There are also files of various articles on foreign relations, policy and international
law.

(nicknamed Midget), Donald Harries (nicknamed Rabbit) describes his pilot training as he progessses from learning to start
a plane, take off, land, and finally fly cross country. The only letter from May is in 1946 when Donald writes that he is
engaged to Sally in Duluth. There are photographs of May, portraits of May and her brother Homer as children, and one photograph
presumably of Donald. The writings are notes on index cards about a thwarted love story between a girl and a pre-flight student.
The story is apparently written hy May, but the author is listed as Dearing Mays. Artifacts are a Navy pin and bracelet inside
a wooden box from Kamp Kahlert in Maryland, where May was a summer counselor.

in Mableton called Whispering Pines, is featured in the collection. Homer Alonzo Glore (1874-1944) was a doctor, and his son
Louis Harold Glore (1909-1991) worked at Pullman Company 1926-1946 and then had a law practice with his brother Homer A. Glore
(1901-1976). The correspondence and genealogy research of Grover Eugene Barber is included. There is information about the
history of the Cobb County Post Office, the Cobb County Justice of the Peace office, legal cases of the Glore & Glore law
firm, Austell School Board records, and much information about the Pullman Company. Some items collected or purchased by Davis
are unrelated to the families or to Georgia, such as the Charles Gordon estate ledger (1875-1884) from Edinburgh, Scotland
and an 1882 diary of George S. Paine of Lexington, Massachusetts.

The collection consists of one letter: dated Philadelphia, August 21, 1780, addressed to "George Gilmore, Senior Surgeon,
Virginia...," signed "W. Shippen," regarding Shippen's acquittal. Gilmore writes: "I am at last released after a long and
malevolent persecution of that most miserable of all animals, Dr. Morgan, assisted by almost as miserable a creature, Rush,
& am acquitted of every charge by a court martial, & the acquittal is confirmed by Congress..."
Text has been lost due to damage in the top right quarter of the manuscript.
