The collection consists of correspondence to Sidney Samuel Thomas from 1943 to 1946, while he lived in Athens, Georgia, and worked as a military cryptographer in St. Petersburg, Miami, and West Palm Beach, Florida; Pawling, New York; and Greensboro, North Carolina. Correspondents include P.F.C. John Lomax, Cpl. Marian Talmadge, Cpl. Pope Hill, Sgt. Carl Cox, Cpl. Cecil Bentz, Cpl. M.K. Smith, Merritt Whelchel, and Cpl. James Swan. Correspondence concerns a plethora of topics, including duties, respective lives in the Army, and daily routines; and there is discussion of religion and philosophy, as well as many references to the popular culture of the era, i.e. books, actors and movies. Included with some of the letters are clippings from newspapers and magazines.

The collection consists of correspondence from Robert L. Bennett to his parents while serving in the 2nd Army then later the 8th Army from 1943, 1945-1946. Letters written from training camps in Ft. Riley, Kansas, and Tennessee, and military posts in California, describe the geographic areas, training, and Bennett's duties. Letters written from the Pacific Theater discuss the Philippines, especially Manila and Leyte, and Japan. Letters include descriptions of the area, the people, camp life, and typhoons; and regard Japanese prisoners of war and independence of the Philippines. Post war letters regard Bennett's duties of processing troops in and out of the area and teaching classes for the army.

The collection consists of four letters from William Heard Kilpatrick to Mrs. Wilhelmina Bonner: dated March 29, 1957, the first letter is a friendly congratulation on Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Bonner's 50th wedding anniversary, and speaks of teaching Mrs. Bonner as a school girl in Blakely, Georgia; dated May 6, 1958, the second letter regards the death of her husband, Mr. John W. Bonner; dated January 23, 1961, the third is a friendly letter of congratulation on her 80th birthday; and dated February 11, 1961, the fourth letter is following up on a question that Mrs. Bonner had not answered from Kilpatrick's previous letter, asking that she write "a page or so" regarding her work as a student under him and what it meant to her (a volume of such letters is being compiled and will be bound and deposited in the Columbia Teacher's College Library). Also included are two photocopies, Dr. Kilpatrick's obituary and a brief biographical sketch.
