Scope and content:

The collection consists of correspondence from Lieutenant R. W. Reynolds to his wife, Mary Lou Reynolds, while serving in the Korean War (January 1951, August 1951-June 1952). Letters mention Reynolds' activities on the frontline, military life, and time spent in Japan. Excerpt from a letter dated October 10, 1951: "I picked up a poor little soul yesterday that had his eye shot out … I got him back to the aid station on my tank...don't know how many Chinese we did kill."

Biographical / historical:

R. Wayne Reynolds (1924-1995) was a native of Rising Sun, Maryland. Reynolds was a graduate of West Knottingham Academy and the University of Maryland. He served six years in the US Army in WWII and in Korea as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Company A 73rd Heavy Tank Battalion.
