The collection consists of correspondences of the Judson Larrabee Hand family from 1870-1898. Some of the correspondents include Judson Larrabee Hand, Columbus Washington Hand, Emma Hand, and Alice Hand. Correspondences are sent from Athens, Americus, Savannah, Bainbridge, Rocky Hills, and Atlanta, Georgia; and New York City. Two letters are written from Hand to his wife on Cunard Royal Mail Steamship, Aurania letterhead. The collection also contains writings, lecture notes, speeches concerning Phi Kappa Literary Society, a scrapbook-cum-themed-book concerning the college career of Judson Larrabee Hand; newspaper clippings announcing Hand marriages, senate events, and the Hand wine business; and family photographs.

A single letter from Julia Evans Cope to the Georgia General Assembly addressing the topic of capital punishment in the state. Cope is writing in support of the the bill to abolish capital punishment put forward by Representatives Viola Ross Napier of Bibb County and John Stephens Wood of Fulton County. At the time of the letter the bill was pending before the House Judiciary Committee. Also included is a photocopy of Cope's obituary from The Atlanta Constitution, dated 1929 March 6.

The collection consists of a letter written on a sheet of Lang Syne Plantation letterhead, undated (accompanying enveloped postmarked Jan 20, 1983), addressed to Mr. M. H. Kowan of Columbus, Ohio, signed "Julia Peterkin". The letter is written in reply to queries by Mr. Kowan about the fictive process, including the source of characters and the novelist's motivations in producing a work of fiction, she responds, "My writing came from a wish to record people, happenings that appealed to me. Everything I have written as fiction has had a parallel in my experience..." She continues for a total of 28 lines discussing her literary efforts and the reasons behind them.
