The collection consists of papers of Braswell D. Deen, Jr., lawyer, Georgia legislator (1951-1960), and Georgia appellate court judge (1965-1990). The papers include correspondence, manuscripts, clippings, photographs, printed material, and speeches. The materials document Deen's personal interests, his writing career, touch briefly on his tenure on the Georgia Court of Appeals and his actitivites as Carl Sanders' campaign manager (8th district) during the 1962 gubernatorial election, but mainly focus on Deen's interest in scientific creationism. The collection also contains correspondence, manuscripts, and poems of Deen's aunt, Annie Hartman Smith.

These papers document the personal life of Melvin Ernest (M. E.) Thompson, Georgia's first lieutenant governor and participant in the famed "Three Governors Controversy." The collection consists of personal correspondence, certificates and diplomas, history regarding the Thompson and Edenfield families, clippings, campaign speeches and announcements, and Sunday school sermons delivered by M. E. Thompson. Two hundred and nineteen, primarily black-and-white, photographs depict the Thompson family; the dedication of the Little White House at Warm Springs in 1947; Thompson's campaigns; members of the Georgia House of Representatives and Georgia Senate (1947-1948); and the unveiling of Thompson's portrait at the State Capitol. Of particular interest are the six television campaign advertisements featuring Thompson's views about the county unit system, automobile tags, taxation, the state highway system and toll roads, and the integration of Georgia's public schools.

The collection consists of papers of the Paine family of Clarke County (Ga.) and Ansley family of Augusta (Ga.) from 1848-1952. Includes correspondence; genealogical information on the Burge, Graves, Paine, and Ansley families; photographs, and a scrapbook. Correspondents include Sarah Ann Neal Burge, David Henry Ansley, Sarah Graves Ansley, James Gardner Paine, Sr., F.A. Rutherford, and James Gardner Paine, Jr.. Included are correspondence from F.A. Rutherford of the 23rd Alabama Infantry Regiment during the Atlanta Campaign, from James G. Paine, Jr. while serving in World War II and relating to his interest in breeding hounds for hunting, from Anne Platt Reeves Paine to her mother-in-law while living in the Philippines, and a typescript of the history of the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church (Newton County, Ga.).
