The collection consists of addresses, speeches, notebooks and sermons of Eugene Lott Hill from 1907-1972. The bulk of the materials (1907-1949) relate to Hill's ministry at the First Presbyterian Church (Athens, Ga.). Also included in the collection is a list of deaths which occurred during Hill's ministry.

Kate Harben Jones papers, 1922-1947

Abstract Or Scope:

The collection consists of papers of Kate Harben Jones from 1922-1947. Includes corrected typescripts of Jones' essays, short stories, and reminiscences; photographs of the Jones family; correspondence; and v-mail. Most of the correspondence (1933-1945) consists of letters to Jones from her son, Herbert F. Jones, during his military service in World War II. Herbert wrote from Fort Riley (Kan.), Camp Gordon (Ga.), Fort Dix (N.J.), and Fort Pierce (Fla.) describing his military training, military service clubs, and the local areas. After being shipped overseas (1944), Herbert wrote from England, Germany, and France describing the area, the people and their reaction to American military troops, the Normandy invasion, reconnaissance patrols, wounds he received, his medical treatment, and military activity after Germany's surrender. The correspondence also contains letters to Kate Jones from other family members and literary acquaintances.

The collection consists of personal papers of Sara and Athos Menaboni. Included are correspondence, journals (both financial and Sara's personal), photographs and photograph albums, home movies, exhibition programs, promotional fliers, Menaboni azalea prints and copies of other prints, books, calling cards, and the memorial service program for Athos Menaboni. Correspondents include "Tommy" Arnold, Congressman James C. Davis, and Wayne Short (on Audubon Society letterhead).

Lamartine G. Hardman was elected governor of Georgia in 1926 and again in 1928 (term 1927-1931). The Governor series consists of correspondence and material pertaining to political appointments, bills, speeches, and miscellaneous information used by Governor Hardman. In these files researchers can locate information relating to the initial phase of reorganizing the state government (a process completed under Hardman's successor, Richard B. Russell, Jr.), health care issues, education, and Governor Hardman's interest in fingerprinting and phrenology. For additional information on Hardman's gubernatorial years, the researcher should also review Emma G. Hardman's diaries (Series VII. Family) and Scrapbooks (Series IX.).

Lamartine Griffin Hardman Papers, Series VIII: General series consists of five subseries. World War I activities includes papers concerning Hardman's role as U.S. Fuel Administrator for the state of Georgia from 1916 to 1919. Personal Correspondence contains a wide range of material from the 1890s to 1926, including a folder of courtship letters from Rosa Taylor, correspondence concerning the unveiling of the memorial to Dr. Crawford Long, contracts, and speeches. Personal Interests contains miscellaneous publications, agricultural brochures, maps and church-related documents. Vault Papers consists of bank deposit books and financial statements. Publications includes information on public schools, speeches by others, and miscellaneous pamphlets. The 25 May 1944 issue of the Commerce News contains a feature on the 50th anniversary of Harmony Grove Mills. There are papers on prohibition, agriculture and education mixed throughout the series. The collection consists of mining reports, drafts, maps, and notes of the firm Adelberg & Raymond (New York, N.Y.) for Georgia mines from 1844-1867. Mines and properties include Adelberg Gold Company (Cobb County, Ga.); Brolley mine (Cherokee County, Ga.); Dr. B. Hamilton property (Cobb County, Ga.); Lewis property (White County, Ga.); and the Judge Strong mine (Cobb County, Ga.). Reports contains sections describing the mines' location, the area's terrain, climate, and geology; an analysis of the gold vein; a mining plan; and an economic view often containing information on the cost of labor, materials, and proposed output. The report for the Lewis mine also includes a history of Georgia mining. Several of the drafts are signed by Dr. Hermann Credner of Ackworth (Cobb County, Ga.).
