Background

Scope and content:

The collection consists of mining reports, drafts, maps, and notes of the firm Adelberg & Raymond (New York, N.Y.) for Georgia mines from 1844-1867. Mines and properties include Adelberg Gold Company (Cobb County, Ga.); Brolley mine (Cherokee County, Ga.); Dr. B. Hamilton property (Cobb County, Ga.); Lewis property (White County, Ga.); and the Judge Strong mine (Cobb County, Ga.). Reports contains sections describing the mines' location, the area's terrain, climate, and geology; an analysis of the gold vein; a mining plan; and an economic view often containing information on the cost of labor, materials, and proposed output. The report for the Lewis mine also includes a history of Georgia mining. Several of the drafts are signed by Dr. Hermann Credner of Ackworth (Cobb County, Ga.).
