The bulk of the correspondence contains letters from Carlisle Cobb to his wife Kate Cobb; from Carlisle, Jr. to his wife Juliette Cobb from England, France, and Ireland while serving with the 6th and 28th Cavalry during World War II; and from Mary McKinley Cobb, while a student at Kansas State University, to Lee Trimble. Other correspondents include Sara Cobb Baxter, Howell E. Cobb, Zachariah Lamar Cobb, and Thomas Reade Rootes Cobb.

This collection consists of the papers of Dr. Phinizy Spalding, a longtime history professor at the University of Georgia. Types of materials in the collection include family materials; correspondence and subject files; scholarly activity and association files; many manuscripts of his writngs as well as research and teaching materials; several hundred documents regarding historic preservation and architecture in Athens and Georgia; materials regarding the management of the Lucy Cobb Institute; and printed material and maps.

The collection consists of the bound manuscript volumes written by Charles Colcock Jones, Jr., noted Georgia historian and literary figure. Several of the volumes are extra illustrated by Jones. These writings form much of the corpus of Jones' published works and are, for the most part, the author's own final manuscript copies, although there are some corrections and annotations.
