The notes sub-series is primarily made up of notebooks, which cover a wide variety of topics, including communism, constituent issues, political issues, legislative sessions, and, in one case, city council sessions. The sub-series includes a large number of calendars, which reveal Merritt's day-to-day schedule while she was a legislator. Folders are organized chronologically, with undated materials appearing at the end of the sub-series. Many of the notebooks contain notes Merritt added while composing her reminiscences decades later: see the Personal Series.
