Papers document Judge Morgan's thirty-five-year judicial career with the United States District Court, 1961-1968, and the United States Fifth and Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, 1968-1996. Includes case files (typically opinions, briefs, judicial memoranda, reports, administrative forms and correspondence), dockets, bench books, case indexes, correspondence, printed opinions, committee files, charge books and notes, newsclippings, photographs, and maps. Of note are Judge Morgan's files relating to highly publicized cases, such as Wallace Butts v. Curtis Publishing Company, civil rights cases heard in District Court in Georgia and the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits, and materials relating to the split of the Fifth Circuit into the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits in 1981.

Marcus Wayland Beck was born in Harris County, Georgia and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1881. He passed the bar in 1883 and began practicing law in Jackson County. He served as a Georgia state senator, Solicitor General of the Flint Circuit and judge for the same circuit. After fighting in the Spanish American War, he returned to Georgia and was appointed as associate justice of the Georgia Supreme Court. He was eventually appointed as the presiding judge, a position he maintained until he retired in 1937. The Marcus W. Beck Diaries reflect his day to day personal and judicial activities as Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court (1905-1937) and as Presiding Justice (1917-1937).

Collection consists of 18 interviews conducted by John Stark, Gary Bertsch, and Mary McKay with Dr. Martin J. Hillenbrand, for Stark's internship with the Center for International Trade and Security (CITS) in 2004. The Russell Library hired Stark, in May 2004, to transcribe the interviews, and he continued to conduct interviews with Dr. Hillenbrand through July of that year. The last interview Stark did with Hillenbrand was video recorded, with Gary Bertsch acting as co-interviewer. In September 2004 Mary McKay of the Russell Library interviewed Dr. Hillenbrand regarding his collection of photographs. Topics include the Berlin Crisis, European Union and its future, Hillenbrand's experience in Burma and India, origins of the Center for East-West Trade Policy (currently the CITS), meeting and marrying his wife, Hillenbrand's monograph Power and Morals, and international economics post-World War II.

Ambassador Martin J. Hillenbrand served for thirty-five years as a professional United States Foreign Service Officer, including service in Burma, India, Mozambique, Hungary, France, and Germany. He was appointed as the first U.S. Ambassador to Hungary (1967-1969), Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs (1969-1972) and Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany (1972-1976). The collection consists of Hillenbrand's personal papers and provides an overview of his life and career in diplomatic service. The papers also document his academic career at The University of Georgia (1982-1997) and involvement in international diplomatic organizations. Of particular interest are his personal, hand-written journals and notebooks which begin with adolescence and extend through retirement. Included in the collection are published and unpublished articles, drafts, speeches, notes, journals, correspondence, clippings, photographs, artifacts and audiovisual material.
