The collection consists of materials from Don and Carolyn Carter's careers, mostly from 1940-1990. It contains many letters between Carolyn and Don while he served in World War II in the China Burma India Theater, as well as several letters between Don and J. Montgomery Curtis, a close friend and former vice-president at Knight-Ridder Newspapers, Inc. Contains correspondence, documents, and articles from both Don and Carolyn's careers in journalism and photojournalism and also reflects their lifelong close relationship with the Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. Collection consists of many letters and other materials showing their involvement in politics, namely Jimmy Carter's tenure as Governor of Georgia and his presidency.

The collection consists of papers of the Thomas Jones family of Thomas County, Georgia from 1819-1889. Thomas Jones' papers include lists of taxable property (slaves, land, livestock, and equipment); indentures; and receipts for the purchase of slaves (names of enslaved people include Adam, a carpenter, Charles, Randal, John, Betsy, Nancy, Abram, Ann, Eliza, Sam, Ned, Bob, Lucy, Cherry, Nelson, Charlott, Robert, Lindy, and Mary). Letters are from Henry Francis Jones to his sister, and between Edwin T. Davis and Mattie Davis; and regard battles, military strategy, and military life. Papers of E.T. Davis concern Davis's military services, and include diary entries with regard to his service with the Dixie Boys of Company A, 57th Georgia Infantry Regiment. The collection also includes plats, indentures, and writs regarding land in Georgia, mainly Irwin and Thomas counties, and a portrait of Thomas Jones.

The collection consists of one copybook kept by Lieutenant H. C. Baldwin, containing financial ledgers and account, drafts of correspondence, and legal documents, many from the Town of Beacon Falls. Included is a testimony in a dispute between a man and two freed persons in Dahlonega, Georgia. The collection also includes a letter (written on the reverse side of a document with header: "Form of application for, and order of commital of indigent insane persons, and insane paupers to the Conn. Hospital for the Insane") concerning a debt owed to Baldwin.

This collection contains one letterpress copybook of the Carhart and Roff merchant company containing business correspondence between March 25th and September 1st, 1858, as well as two original letters dated March 8, 1853 and September 6, 1886. The letters discuss shipments, payments, and remittance of goods traded around Georgia and Savannah in particular. In addition a few letters to plantations mention enslaved people.

The collection consists of papers of Joseph E. Brown from 1823-1895 and includes correspondence, letter books, tax returns, speeches, and diaries. It contains official correspondence and letterbooks (1858-1863) as Governor of Georgia which are particularly strong in information regarding Georgia's secession and involvement in the Civil War and includes such correspondents as Howell Cobb, Alexander H. Stephens, and other Confederate government officials. Also included are an 1864 speech of Howell Cobb, a speech (1868) made by Brown regarding Reconstruction politics, and a manuscript copy (1864) of Brown's pamphlet concerning Benjamin H. Hill's notes on Reconstruction. The collection also contains diaries of Franklin P. Brown (1868), Joseph Mackey Brown (1867, 1874, 1876), and Elijah A. Brown (1882, Jan. only). Much of this collection is transcribed with full transcripts in boxes 7-10.

The collection consists of correspondence, wills and deeds, and accounts of various family members. There are numerous accounts of the settlement of the John Hall estate, of which James M. Hall was executor. Of special interest are the bills of sale for enslaved people, freedmen contracts, and plantation overseer accounts. The accounts show the growth of the plantation, including purchase of enslaved people and supplies and land, operation of a sawmill, sales of cotton, and labor dealings with the Georgia Penitentiary after the Civil War. There is also a Civil War letter from John W. Shinholster on April 23, 1863 from his camp near Port Hudson, Louisiana.

This collection consists of one legal proceeding, dated February 1819, describing the sentencing of an enslaved man, Rodney, who is accused of burning down the cotton gin house of the enslaver Major John A. Jones. Thomas Holmes Kenan (1771-1837), court clerk for Baldwin County, Georgia, records the sentence as death by hanging.

Broach to his brother Calvin asking him to take care in the sale or resale of his former enslaved man, Peter.

This collection contains genealogical research materials on the Vaughn, Clark, Read, and associated families, and that of other Twiggs and Oglethorpe County families. It has correspondence between Francis G. Clark and Bessie Vaughn Clark during their college courtship and through the first few years of their marriage, often referencing employment difficulties during the Depression. Other correspondence includes letters to and from Francis Clark, Jr. during his time aboard the USS Abiity in the early 1960s. There are a number of Civil War letters from members of the Read family as well. Also included are notes, copies, photographs, legal documents, and narratives.

This collection contains the business and personal records of the Hand family of Pelham, Georgia and reflects the status of South Georgia's agricultural economy from the end of Reconstruction to the early 1980s. Initial success in land speculation, farming, and timber and turpentine production during the late 19th to early 20th centuries led Judson Larrabee (J. L.) Hand to establish the Hand Trading Company, a company that would become southwest Georgia's largest mercantile business and spur his expansion into banking, railroads, textiles, and fertilizer manufacture. The collection is comprised of the deeds, financial records, and correspondence of the Hand family's many businesses; political papers relating to Frederick Barrow Hand, Sr.'s terms in the Georgia General Assembly from 1933 to 1955 and his 1954 gubernatorial primary campaign; photographs of J. L. Hand's businesses, employees, and home, as well as Fred Hand, Sr.'s political career; and Fred Hand, Sr.'s genealogical records.
