Mitchell and Gairdner, agents for John and James McBurney, the fugitives' owners, had the runaways put in jail; an ordinance of the Savannah city council arranged their sale to David Garvin. This statement goes on to mention that John Kinnard is now the legal owner of six of the [thirty-six enslaved people] named in the earlier affidavit of July 3.
