Correspondence is mainly from Johnson to his daughter Tallulah Horne and her husband Pearce, with several to his daughter Gertrude discussing primarily family matters.

The collection consists of personal papers of E. Merton Coulter from 1898-1981. The papers include correspondence, clippings, diaries, financial records (1920-1977), lecture notes, student papers, grade books (1914-1958), and writings of others, as well as printed material, photographs, and slides pertaining to Georgia or Coulter's travels abroad. The correspondence (1898-1981) includes carbons (1946-1979) of Coulter's outgoing letters and incoming correspondence to Coulter from scholars, publishers, and former students. The correspondence reflects Coulter's activities at the University of Georgia (1919-1958); the publication of his books and articles; his activities with the American Historical Association, the Southern Historical Association, and the Georgia Civil War Centennial Commission; and his association with various historians. The most extensive group of correspondence (1929-1965) is with Roland M. Harper of the University of Alabama. The diaries (1910-1981, with gaps) contain often lengthy but sporadic entries describing Coulter's travels, his writings, his opinion of Georgia politics, and his daily activities. After 1952, the entries become very brief and focus on his daily activities.

The collection consists of the papers of Wymberley Wormsloe De Renne and the members of his family, especially Mrs. De Renne and their son Kentwyn. Materials that cover all family members include over seventy years of family correspondence and general materials such as clippings, accounts, invitations, and notebooks. Mrs. De Renne's materials are mainly administraive in nature and reflect her interests and can be found among the series for the Association of Georgia Artists and the Garden Club of Georgia. Kentwyn De Renne's materials include correspondence from the 1940s-1950s and miscellaneous materials. A large amount of material can be found in the financial materials section which has not described beyond year spans. Additionally there is a series for Inigo De Renne, and a small amount of images and miscellaneous relating to the family's activities.

Merton Coulter from contemporary, hand-written copies of letters and documents from 1732-1745 relating to the Trustees for Establishing the Colony of Georgia in America. The correspondence includes letters between officials and settlers in the Colony and the Trustees. Major correspondees include James Oglethorpe, Thomas Causton, Samuel Eveleigh, Thomas Christie, Elisha Dobree, John Wesley and Trustees Benjamin Martryn and Harman Verelst. The letters provide comprehensive information regarding the settlement of Georgia, especially in Savannah and Frederica; Indian trading and relations; activities of the French and Spanish; the question of slavery; Salzburger and Moravian settlers; and religious matters.

A typescript of an English translation of "The Beginning of the Salzburger Settlement Ebenezer in Georgia." It was translated from German documents in the possession of the Georgia Salzburger Society, forwarded to them from Germany at the time of the Salzburger Bicentennial Celebration in Prussia. The facts contained herein were gathered largely from the diaries of Boltzius, Gronau, and others, published contemporaneously by Samuel Urlsperger, pastor of St. Ann's Church, Augsburg. The translation from German here presented was prepared by FERA (WPA) workers on a project under the direction of the Savannah Historical Research Association. Dated 14 September 1937, the typescript has the signature of Pearl R. Gnann, historian of the Ebenezer community.

Stewart wants to change the purpose and name of the "Southern Methodist" and the "Georgia Pulpit" will be its successor.
