The collection consists of biographical information, genealogy, correspondence, writings, artwork, scrapbooks, financial papers, printed material and photographs. Much of the correspondence is between Sewell and Mary Brumby and from their friends, especially their friends in Japan. The Hart family correspondence revolves around Mary Elmira Bullard Hart, with letters from her husband William Thomas Hart, and their children Louise Hart Hunt (1911-1987), Mary Hart, and William Bullard Hart (1918-1985). There is also correspondence of Marianne Brumby, Mira Lee "Candle" Brumby, Sewell Robeson Brumby, the Bullard family, the Blackmar family and the Pittman family. John Ray (1792-1868) was a lawyer and teacher in Newnan, Georgia. The connection between the Ray/ Barker families and the Brumby/Hart families is unclear. Genealogy research done by Sewell Brumby concerns the Brumby, Hart, Sewell and Pittman extended families and includes research correspondence with family members. Writings are by various family members, especially the poetry of Louise Hart Hunt and family cookbooks and recipes used for Mary Brumby's publication. Several Blackmar family scrapbooks are included. Financial papers include estate papers of Mary Blackmar Bullard and Mary Elmira Hart with personal property inventories. There is also a household inventory of Sewell Brumby's house for insurance purposes, and information on loans and donations of Japanese items to museums. There are numerous photographs of family, houses and other subjects.

The collection consists of letters Camden Evans wrote to his wife and her father in Columbus (Ga.) from 1862-1864. He wrote from numerous camps in towns including Tupelo (Miss.), Murfreesboro (Tenn.), and Ringgold and Dalton (Ga.). In his letters he complained about how badly privates were treated and the lack of food and clothing. He asked Mr. Laney to bring him a boy to wash his clothes and forage for food, and he constantly tried to arrange for a furlough or a substitute. He gave his opinions of Generals Grant, Johnson, Bragg and Hardee. By May 22, 1864 he was near Atlanta and described having no clean clothes for three weeks, and being on picket duty for 24 hours without relief. By July 12, 1864 he had learned of his son Bobbie's death. His last letter is dated July 17, 1864. There is one letter from Emma to her husband and several letters from her after the war to her mother. In these she mentioned her second husband Steve Smith, her daughter Daisy, and a move to Birmingham (Ala.)

The correspondence regards the Dever and Blance families, most are business related involving the Post Office, Internal Revenue Office, land transfers, the slate quarry and politics. Financial papers make up the major part of the collection, with deeds to land in Cherokee County (Ga.), which was later divided into Paulding and Polk counties. Several ledgers contain accounts for stores in Rockmart, Van Wert and Blanceville, and two Forrest Hutchings' farm ledgers list accounts for tenants.

The collection consists of letters written by William Sturges to his brother John beginning in 1844 while John was in college in Princeton, New Jersey. He later went to Yale to study law. The letters describe the social events and family life in Waynesboro, with some mention of politics. In 1852 John was county surveyor for Burke County and there are several letters to him requesting his services. There are also two letters from John's niece Abby, who married Henry Hart Jones. John's regiment was in Portsmouth (Va.) in August 1861 and Roanoke Island (NC) in December 1861. William wrote to him giving local news of the war. There are no letters from John Sturges. Typescripts of all letters are included.

The document states that Roman paid the sum of thirty pounds and is therefore acquitted and discharged forever. A typed transcription of the deed is also included.
