Historical Note

Farish C. Chandler, Sr. graduated from the University of Georgia in 1915 and served as a colonel in the U. S. Army during World War I. He was the father of Lt. Farish C. Chandler, Jr. and the brother of Isaac V. Chandler (UGA class of 1925).

Sarah Gilliam Williamson lived in Georgia during the Revolutionary War, she was the daughter of William Gilliam and Mary Jarrett, she married Micajah Williamson, who became a Lieutenant-Colonel. Many battles took place in the Williamsons' neighborhood in Wilkes County, and Sarah often found herself nursing her husband back to health when he was injured. In the meantime, she managed their plantation, supplied the army, and made clothes for her husband and their children and slaves.--Adapted from Revolutionary Reader by Sophie Lee Foster.
