The collection consists of a Civil War diary kept by James McCulloch from August 1862-April 1963. McCulloch writes from Jacksboro,
Tennessee; Barboursville; Richmond, Lexington, Danville, Harrodsburg, Frankfort, Georgetown, and Bryantsville, Kentucky; Dalton,
Georgia; Mobile, Alabama; and Vicksburg, Mississippi. Journal entries regard troop movements, weather, food and water rations,
and fighting. McCulloch also writes about encounters with secessionists; his frequent sickness and experience of the Army's
medical services; and accidental shootings amongst the Confederates.

The collection consists of correspondence of Dr. Erwin James Eldridge and his wife, Emma Eldridge, from 1860-1865. Eldridge
writes to his wife from Starkville and Philadelphia, telling her of items that he picked up on the Manassas battlefield, long
marches, and officers in battle. Correspondence from Emma to Dr. Eldridge (addressed: Care of Howell Cobb, 16th Georgia Regiment,
Richmond, Virginia, and Macon, Georgia), regards news of their home from Americus, Georgia, family matters and a tornado that
ripped through town sending slaves and livestock flying through the air. The remaining letters are addressed to Emma, from
family and friends displaying concern for Dr. Eldridge and other family members.

Photographs depict soldiers at ease, camp life, and civilian scenes around Montgomery. The album includes pictures of family,
newspaper clippings, three photos of Ruth Law in an airplane doing aerobatics, and a printed memoriam of Mortimer W. Clasgens.

nails, Civil War bullets, and a 19th century brass spike.
Georgia maps stamped "Dr. John H. Goff Collection" were removed from this collection and added to the county map folders in
the Hargrett Library Map Collection.

The Lucy Hargrett Draper Center and Archives for the Study of the Rights of Women in History and Law is comprised of primary
and secondary materials in a variety of formats with an emphasis on documenting women's rights, especially the United States
and British Women's Suffrage Movements (1840-1920). The focus of the collection is on leading figures such as Susan B. Anthony,
Clara Barton, Carrie Chapman Catt, Julia Ward Howe, Mary Livermore, Lucretia Mott, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucy Stone, Emmeline
Pankhurst and her daughter Sylvia, including correspondence and photographs. Other materials relate to the suffrage movement
in the United States, such as postcards, photographs, government documents and periodicals, record activities at the state,
regional, and national levels, both for and against suffrage.
In addition, supporting materials recognize some of the leaders of the abolition movement, including Frederick Douglass, Harriet
Tubman, and Sojourner Truth, each of whom spoke up on behalf of women's rights as well as against slavery. Moreover, to place
the suffrage materials in historical context the collection also includes pre-suffrage treatise on women's rights and legal
documents dating to the 16th century as well as materials related to post-suffrage efforts (1921-2000) to pass the ERA, the
formation of N.O.W., the women's liberation movement, and the Pro-Choice movement.

Islands when the Spanish first came to Georgia. Please God... closely follows Majette's life story. Her writings also include
children's stories and poems, some of which are in a scrapbook she made for her granddaughter in 1929.

The collection consists of many folders of loose material including clippings, letters, drawings of Epps planes, writings,
and photographs. Of particular note are several good aerial views of Athens and the University of Georgia (circa 1920-1930s).
Also of interest are several pages of reminiscences by Ben Epps, Jr., in which he writes about his early life and flying.
Additional material received in 2002 includes flight manuals, membership cards, transcripts of interviews, etc. The most important
item in this collection is a scrapbook (1904-1963) which documents Epps' life as a builder and flyer of airplanes. Included
are over 200 photographs, as well as some clippings and letters. A few photographs, etc. can be found here of other pilots,
planes, and Epps' children who were also flyers.
