The collection consists of biographical information, correspondence, writings, research, and photographs. Majette's only published work (1924) was White Blood, which dealt with race relations. Mistress of a Thousand Slaves is based on the life of Fanny Kemble. Research for the book includes a letter written by Fanny Kemble. Daughters of Men is about Indian tribes on the Sea Islands when the Spanish first came to Georgia. Please God... closely follows Majette's life story. Her writings also include children's stories and poems, some of which are in a scrapbook she made for her granddaughter in 1929.

McHatton's activities with the Garden Club of Georgia (Athens) including correspondence and printed material on gardens or garden clubs in Georgia and the United States; and James Alexander McHatton family papers pertaining to the family's flight to Cuba after the Civil War, their life on a plantation in Cuba, and their return to the United States. The collection also includes photographs (1870-1900) of the Chinn, Lustrat, and McHatton families; printed material pertaining to Norwich (Conn.); publications (1903-1932, with gaps) of Spring Hill College (Mobile, Ala.); publications (1889-1908) of Dr. Henry C. McHatton; financial records (1919-1939) of Thomas H. McHatton; manuscripts of Eliza C. McHatton Ripley's book From Flag to Flag; and postcard albums.

The collection consists of biographical information, correspondence, writings, printed material, photographs, and media. The correspondence includes letters from family, fans, and publishers and letters regarding awards and speaking engagements. Writings include articles, short stories, reviews, and books. Greene has written five books: Praying for Sheetrock (1991), politics and civil rights in McIntosh County (Ga.); Last Man Out (1996), a mine disaster in Springhill, Nova Scotia; The Temple Bombing (2003), the bombing of a synagogue in Atlanta in 1958; There is No Me Without You (2006), AIDS and orphans in Ethiopia; and No Biking in the House Without a Helmet (2011), a humorous look at life with nine childlren. Research for these books includes interviews with the various persons in the books. Also included are manuscript drafts, both handwritten and typed. There are several editions of Greene's books in the printed material and magazines containing her articles. There are photographs of Melissa Fay Greene, but most are of Ethiopian children photographed while researching for There is No Me Without You. Audiovisual material consists mainly of cassette tapes of interviews.

The collection also has papers (mainly correspondence) of her friend, Paula Snelling; her sister, Esther Smith; and the Barnett family. Also included is a film reel entitled "Miss Smith of Georgia."

This collection includes clippings, correspondence, genealogical files, articles, notes, interviews, transcripts, photographs, and writings, gathered by Joan Titus, relating to Lillian Smith's life and legacy. The correspondence relates to Laural Falls Camp, South Today, Lillian Smith's publications and events, and letters received by Joan Titus regarding Smith. There are several folders of audience reaction cards from screenings of Miss Smith of Georgia from 1964 and 1966. Also included in this collection are interviews conducted by Joan Titus in March 1962 with Atlanta civic and political leaders, including Ivan Allan, William Hartsfield, Martin Luther King, Jr., Lorimer Douglas Milton, and Reverend Williams Holmes Borders, regarding African American business leaders. Also in March 1962, Titus interviewed Dr. Robert Coles, a child psychiatrist, about the effect of school desegregation on children. Excerpts of the Coles interview were used in Time-Life's radio program "The Children Should be Heard".
