The collection consists of papers of Lillian Smith from circa 1920-1980. The papers contain personal correspondence, manuscripts
of her works, writings by and about her, files on various organizations she was interested in or involved with (many dealing
with human rights), audiotapes containing interviews with and readings by Smith, speeches, financial records, photographs,
and printed material. Part of the collection contains records relating to her involvement with the Laurel Falls Camp for Girls
including correspondence, applications for admission, printed material, and scrapbooks. The collection also has correspondence,
photographs, and papers of her partner, Paula Snelling; her sister, Esther Smith; and the Barnett family.
The audiovisual materials related to this collection are housed in the Walter J. Brown Media Archives.

Correspondence between Tate family members relates to news of family and friends. Correspondents include Carter Tate, Edna
Tate, Philip May Tate, Susan Tate, and William Tate. Earlier materials pertain to Athens businessman Asaph King Childs, including
account books, cash books, bills and receipts, correspondence, and timebooks documenting Childs' involvement with or management
of the Cliff House (Tallulah Falls, Ga.), Childs & Moss (Athens, Ga.), and Childs, Nickerson & Company (Athens, Ga.). The
collection also contains Civil War correspondence between Shatt C. Mitchell of the 13th Georgia Infantry Regiment and his
wife Chloe including letters describing the battle of Antietam (Md.). Additional materials include scrapbooks containing
clippings relating to Corra Harris.

The collection consists of the papers of Rebecca Latimer Felton, from 1851 to 1930. The papers include correspondence, speeches,
articles, and scrapbooks; all reflecting her lengthy public career as author, newspaper columnist, lecturer, as she actively
pursued her interests in politics, religious issues, penal and temperance reform and women's political rights. The papers
reflect her involvement in the World's Columbian Exposition (1890-1894), the Cotton States Exposition in Atlanta (1895), and
as a delegate to the Progressive Republican Convention in Chicago (1912). Correspondents include readers of her articles and
letters and those involved in Exposition matters. Other correspondents include General John B. Gordon, Alexander Hamilton
Stephens, James Longstreet, William H. Hidell, Bertha Honore Palmer, Lafayette McLaws, Florence Williams Olmstead, President
Rutherford B. Hayes, Georgia Governors A. H. Colquitt, Joseph Emerson Brown and William Yates Atkinson and family members,
husband William H. Felton, son Howard Erwin Felton, and Charles and Eleanor Swift Latimer.
