Augustus Turnbull was the Assistant Press Secretary to Governor Carl Sanders during the last year of his term in office (1966-1967). The collection consists primarily of speeches and press releases written by members of Governor Lester Maddox's press department. Thomas Talmadge Gresham drafted over 200 speeches during his tenure as a speechwriter for the Governor from 1968 to 1970. Also included are research files maintained by Gresham and various other press department office files, including schedules and assignments. There are also seven photographs and a few pieces of memorabilia from Maddox's gubernatorial years.

Reverend Clifford Hodges Brewton served as press aide to Lester Maddox during his terms as governor and lieutenant governor of Georgia. This collection contains materials Brewton compiled in order to write a book (never published) about Governor Maddox. The scope of the collection covers both the gubernatorial (1967-1971) and the lieutenant governor (1971-1975) administrations of Maddox including the campaigns for each office as well as his 1968 bid for the U.S. presidency. The collection includes press releases, speeches, research materials, clippings, magazine articles, photographs, audiocassettes, and ¼-inch audiotapes.

Dean Rusk Personal Papers, Series II: U.S. Secretary Of State, Department Of State includes transcripts of addresses, interviews, statements, press releases, and speeches that Dean Rusk gave during his tenure as Secretary of State. Researchers may be interested in statements by Rusk on the deaths of various famous figures in the world of politics and foreign affairs including President Herbert Hoover, King Mohamed V of Morocco, Adlai E. Stevenson, Sir Winston Churchill and Robert F. Kennedy. Opening and closing remarks on numerous foreign relations events, such as the meetings of the US-Japan Committee on Economics and Trade, and the SEATO [Southeast Asia Collective Defense Treaty] conference in 1961, the Geneva Disarmament Conference in 1962, and meetings over the Dominican Republic Crisis with the OAS [Organization of American States] in 1965, can also be found here. There are several copies of congressional testimonies by Dean Rusk given between 1949 and 1979. Also, a small group of files consisting of articles that Dean Rusk designated for his "personal papers" upon leaving the office of Secretary of State. Topics covered in these files include Vietnam, the effect of student activism on international relations, the Berlin Crisis of 1961-1964, the role of analogy in law, Rusk's success over nuclear nonhappening, foreign travel by the Secretary of State, and the National Academy of Sciences. Certain records relating to the Palestine question were maintained in the offices of Dean Rusk and Robert McClintock, these records exist on microfilm.

There is also legislative correspondence filed by constituent name in the Miscellaneous series, which acts as a partial name cross-reference file to this and other series (for a more detailed explanation of this cross-referencing, see the description of III. Miscellaneous File). Topics include farming and small business practices, social security, postal rates, education, and taxation. There is also documentation of Pilchers activities as a member of the Subcommittee on Foreign Economic Policy and Subcommittee on the Far East and the Pacific.

Materials document Democratic and Republican Party campaigns at the national level and the Pennsylvania state or local level including Adlai Stevenson's 1952 presidential campaign and the 1964 "Republicans for Johnson" presidential campaign. Georgia national and state materials mainly pertain to Mrs. Jesse W. Jenkins' 1950 gubernatorial campaign. Also includes AFL-CIO political education materials (1950-1954, 1964).

The collection consists of background material for Linley's Architecture of Middle Georgia: The Oconee Area (Athens : Univerity of Georgia Press, 1972), house survey reports, manuscript notes, various states of typescript and publisher's proofs, correspondence, press releases, and advertising material giving great insight into the development of an important book on Georgia architecture. Architecture in middle Georgia has become a classic work of detailed scholarship and research in both the architectural features of middle Georgia and the sociological and historical implications as well. From 1807 to 1869 Milledgeville was the capital of Georgia, and many superb examples of antebellum architecture are still to be found there in Baldwin County and in the surrounding counties of the Oconee area - Hancock, Jasper, Johnson, Putnam, Washington, and Wilkinson.
