The First Person Project collects personal narratives and oral histories documenting life in the twentieth and twenty-first
centuries. Interviews are usually between two friends or family members and typically focus on personal stories such as relationships
and family histories. Interviews also touch on larger historical and cultural themes such as racial identity, religion, gay
rights, the death penalty, and life in Athens and in Georgia.

Jackson Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) is a not-for-profit, member-owned electric cooperative chartered in 1938 to
serve electricity to the then-rural areas of northeast Georgia. The records document the work of the cooperative to provide
and promote electricity throughout its service area and includes photographs, publications, financial reports, histories and
scrapbooks. Also included as part of this collection are four Rural Electrification Administration (REA) films, dating from
between 1956 to 1968. The films can be watched from on the Jackson EMC playlist on the Russell Library Audiovisual YouTube
account.

Our Stories, Our Lives is a collection of stories gathered by the Georgia Libraries for Accessible Statewide Services (GLASS)
to preserve and document a more complete history of the disability experience, specifically that of people with print disabilities
who are living in Georgia. This is an oral history project that works to both preserve and document the varying experiences
of those with print disabilities through the stories of people who have lived/are living with a print disability, including
visual impairment, physical impairment, blindness, or an organic reading disability such as dyslexia.

Collection consists of 18 interviews conducted by John Stark, Gary Bertsch, and Mary McKay with Dr. Martin J. Hillenbrand,
for Stark's internship with the Center for International Trade and Security (CITS) in 2004. The Russell Library hired Stark,
in May 2004, to transcribe the interviews, and he continued to conduct interviews with Dr. Hillenbrand through July of that
year. The last interview Stark did with Hillenbrand was video recorded, with Gary Bertsch acting as co-interviewer. In September
2004 Mary McKay of the Russell Library interviewed Dr. Hillenbrand regarding his collection of photographs. Topics include
the Berlin Crisis, European Union and its future, Hillenbrand's experience in Burma and India, origins of the Center for East-West
Trade Policy (currently the CITS), meeting and marrying his wife, Hillenbrand's monograph Power and Morals, and international
economics post-World War II.

Richard B. Russell, Jr. Oral History Project includes The collection consists of 175 oral history interviews relating to the
personal and political life of Richard B. Russell. Interviewees include members of the Russell family, his staff and interns,
other senators and public figures, and friends. The primary interviewer was Hugh Cates, a public relations manager at Southern
Bell and secretary of the Russell Foundation (1977-1981). Most of the interviews were recorded between 1971 and 1979, but
the majority during 1971 after Senator Russell's death. Other interviewers outside of the Russell Foundation Oral History
Project include: William Stueck, Karen Kelly, Barboura Raesly, Robert G. Stephens, Jr., Dwight L. Freshley, Tom Jackson, Angus
Hepburn, and Russell Library staff. Interviews provide insight into Senator Russell's political career as State Representative,
Governor, and U.S. Senator, his views on various topics such as civil rights and Vietnam, and his personality and family life.

D. W. Brooks was a major figure in American agriculture. He was the founder and leader of Gold Kist, a farm cooperative, for
almost fifty years and also served as an agricultural advisor to several U.S. Presidents. This collection consists primarily
of oral history interviews with D.W. Brooks conducted by Brian S. Wills. D.W. Brooks discusses his family background, his
childhood in Royston, Ga., his education, and his involvement with the Methodist church. He speaks extensively about topics
related to farming and agriculture in Georgia, including the founding and development of Gold Kist, the poultry industry,
fish and cattle production, cotton farming, and the federal government's involvement with farming co-ops. Brooks also discusses
his contribution as an agricultural advisor to United States presidents and world leaders. Complimentary interviews in this
collection with individuals such as former President Jimmy Carter and Secretary of State Dean Rusk provide additional perspectives
on Brooks and his contributions.

Chambers papers of Judge Lewis R. Morgan. Papers document Judge Morgan's thirty-five-year judicial career with the United
States District Court, 1961-1968, and the United States Fifth and Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, 1968-1996. Includes case
files (typically opinions, briefs, judicial memoranda, reports, administrative forms and correspondence), dockets, bench books,
case indexes, correspondence, printed opinions, committee files, charge books and notes, newsclippings, photographs, and maps.
Of note are Judge Morgan's files relating to highly publicized cases, such as Wallace Butts v. Curtis Publishing Company,
civil rights cases heard in District Court in Georgia and the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits, and materials relating to the split
of the Fifth Circuit into the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits in 1981.

The collection consists of 172 oral history interviews with Dean Rusk and his colleagues between 1984-1989. Includes audiotapes
and transcriptions documenting Rusk's life from early childhood in the 1910's through his teaching career in the 1980's. The
interviews contain information on Rusk's service as U.S. Under Secretary and Secretary of State during the administrations
of Presidents Truman, Kennedy, and Johnson and his involvement in foreign relations including the Korean War, the Cuban Missile
Crisis, and the Vietnam War. The interviews also document his position as president of the Rockefeller Foundation in the 1950s.

Hal Henderson is a retired professor of political science from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) in Tifton, Ga.
His main research field is mid-twentieth century Georgia politics. The oral history interviews in this collection are the
result of research Henderson conducted for two books, one on Ellis Arnall and the other on Ernest Vandiver. This collection
also contains eight VHS recordings from a symposium on Georgia governors directed by Hal Henderson and Gary Roberts that was
held at ABAC in 1985.

The Georgia Environmental Oral History Project was started in 2013 via a partnership between the Russell Library and Betsy
Bean. The project documents the forces that have shaped and are currently shaping the Georgia landscape, including such topics
as environmental activism (with a focus on grassroots activism), legislation related to environmental issues, the environmental
history of the Georgia coast, the interplay between conservation, industry, and tourism, the politics of "sustainability,"
and the relationship between environmental issues and public safety.
Early interviews focus on Brunswick and Glynn County including numerous Superfund sites, the development issues surrounding
St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island, and the challenges of protecting coastal marshlands.
