business of the Lodge including financial matters, elections, the establishment and dissolution of local lodges, and its relationship
with the Rebekah Assembly (the women's branches). The collection also contains some printed material (1902-1917, with gaps)
including proceedings, constitutions, and bylaws of various Georgia lodges.

The collection consists of records of the Athens (Ga.) Klan #5 of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) from 1921-1930. The records include
correspondence, newsletters, minutes, quarterly reports, membership cards, dues records, recommendation cards, receipts, and
forms for robe requisitions relating to the activities of the Athens KKK #5. The correspondence (1921-1929) contains letters
to the Klan asking for financial assistance, thank-yous for assistance rendered, as well as official correspondence, some
from national KKK headquarters on membership standings, meetings, induction ceremonies, and recruitment. The correspondence
also discusses Georgia politics, especially the 1926 gubernatorial election. The minutes (1925-1926) document Klan meetings
and contain information on dues paid, elections, social events or official ceremonies, help for the needy, and investigations
of new or current members.

and letter books. The letter books detail Cutts' business transactions as well as some personal correspondence and correspondence
concerning the Knights Templar (a masonic order).
Also contained in the collection are account books, bills, receipts, and letter books of Butler, Stevens & Company, a Savannah
cotton factor. The materials document the firm's cotton business and the establishment of an Exporting Dept. in 1886 for
naval stores and pine lumber. The company dealt with firms in the United States, South America, and Spain.

business papers (1870-1938) pertaining to Jack J. Spalding's legal career and the law firm of King and Spalding in Atlanta,
Georgia.
The Jack J. Spalding, Jr. (Spalding's brother) series includes correspondence (1943-1951) from Jack Jr. to Hughes Spalding,
first from New York City, then Greenville, South Carolina, and typed carbon copies of Hughes' response. The letters primarily
discuss family matters and personal interests. The series also contains financial materials and legal documents pertaining
to the estate of Jack Jr.

The bulk of the collection (1844-1936) consists of correspondence to William Harden or Judge Edward J. Harden. Letters to
William Harden pertain to Georgia history and family genealogy as well as letters documenting Harden's duties as Secretary
of the Sons of the Revolution (Savannah, Ga.) and as Librarian for the Georgia Historical Society (Savannah, Ga.). Correspondence
to Judge Edward Jenkins Harden discusses Georgia politics and law cases. Notable correspondents include Joseph Henry Lumpkin,
Charles Colcock Jones, Jr., and Caroline Miller. Also includes correspondence of other family members including John Maxwell
Harden, Edward T. Harden, and Ann Harden Morse. Of particular interest, are a series of letters (1826-1857, with gaps) from
