The collection consists of various official records of the city of Athens that were housed in the Mayor's vault. Included
are tax assessment books, tax digests, city engineer's correspondence, disbursement ledgers, mayor's general papers, and a
significant amount of material dealing with the Athens Housing and Urban Renewal Project. The latter series includes city
council minutes, project plans, and information about acquisitions and relocations concerning the renewal project undertaken
in the early-mid 1960s including the Linnentown neighborhood.

This collection contains the business and personal records of the Hand family of Pelham, Georgia and reflects the status of
South Georgia's agricultural economy from the end of Reconstruction to the early 1980s. Initial success in land speculation,
farming, and timber and turpentine production during the late 19th to early 20th centuries led Judson Larrabee (J. L.) Hand
to establish the Hand Trading Company, a company that would become southwest Georgia's largest mercantile business and spur
his expansion into banking, railroads, textiles, and fertilizer manufacture.
The collection is comprised of the deeds, financial records, and correspondence of the Hand family's many businesses; political
papers relating to Frederick Barrow Hand, Sr.'s terms in the Georgia General Assembly from 1933 to 1955 and his 1954 gubernatorial
primary campaign; photographs of J. L. Hand's businesses, employees, and home, as well as Fred Hand, Sr.'s political career;
and Fred Hand, Sr.'s genealogical records.

This collection consists of a variety of materials donated by the Chaffin family concerning the academic and professional
lives of Dr. Emory Chaffin and his son Verner Chaffin. The majority of the materials detail the varied studies of Verner spanning
from his high school and college graduations to materials collected as he attempted to learn Japanese after his enrollment
in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and materials collected during his time in Japan. The collection also contains materials
related to Dr. Emory Chaffin's medical practice and licensing and his membership in the Freemasons. In addition, there are
several large posters (Russian Propaganda and reproductions of watercolors depicting battle scenes recreated in Paramount's
motion picture "Wake Island"). Included are an early 20th century teacher's grade book, plaques showing various Georgia colleges,
a picture of a 1960s DAR banquet in Washington, D.C., and a press release detailing an architecture exhibition at Georgia
Tech.

and histories about pharmacy in Georgia, Crawford W. Long, and the University of Georgia School of Pharmacy. There is also
an index of students registered in the UGA Pharmacy School and the years attended between 1900-1948. Print materials in this
collection are authored by Kenneth L. Waters, Robert C. Wilson, and professors in the pharmacy school as well as items by
others relating to pharmacy history and pharmacy in general, as well as Waters' pharmacy licenses and other plaques and awards.
