The collection consists of four pages from the family record section of the Jordan family bible. These pages were removed from the bible, which was left by Mrs. Ilah Dunlap Jordan Little on instructions from the director of the Libraries, Mr. W. P. Kellam. The bible, itself, being in extremely poor condition, was not retained. These pages contain birth, death, and marriage records of the Jordan family. These were the only records in the bible.

The collection consists of the diary of a blockade runner during the Civil War from December 1861 through February 1862. The diary describes the voyage from New York to Halifax, Nova Scotia and the return voyage on the brigantine the Standard of Windsor, loaded with dry goods, food, and medicine for the Confederate government. The author describes in detail the weather, sea conditions, eating habits, and life aboard ship; fears of capture by Union forces; maneuvers used to run the blockade; and off loading the cargo. Also contained in the collection are research notes, speeches, and correspondence of William Porter Kellam pertaining to his research of the diary. Kellam attributes the diary to James Dickson in Savannah, Georgia.

The W. Porter Kellam library records consist primarily of correspondence, which is separated into the into the categories of administrattion, donors and special collections. Notable correspondents include Senator Joseph McCarthy and Stephens Mitchell, Margaret Mitchell's brother. The collection also holds Kellam's administrative records such as library self-studies, minutes, annual reports. The collection contains significant information regarding the source of books and artifacts found in both the general Library and Special Collections stacks. In addition, this collection has numerous materials documenting the design, construction and interior decoration of the Main Library, its Annex and the Science Library.

Scope and content The Richard B. Russell Foundation Oral History project documents the origins, evolution, philanthropic activities, and legacy of that foundation as well as its role in the creation of the University of Georgia's Richard B. Russell Library for Political Research and Studies and the construction of the Richard B. Russell Building, Special Collections Libraries. Interview participants include former Russell Foundation chairpersons, long-serving Foundation trustees, and current and former University of Georgia Libraries administrators. The collection documents the narrators' personal and professional ties to the Russell Foundation, experiences working with the organization since its inception in 1970, assessment of the Foundation's past and present philanthropic work, and suggestions for future endeavors.
