The collection consists of the college notebooks, research materials, and miscellanous class notes, and term papers of Dr.
Gaines Winningham Walter, from his classes at the University of Georgia and Yale.
Series 1: College Notebooks is comprised of notebooks with class notes from Psychology, History, French, Economics, German,
Georgia History, Ethics, Chemistry, English, Political Science, Greek, and Spanish.
Series 2: Maps is comprised mainly of photostats of maps that Walter used as minor aids in the preparation of his doctoral
dissertation, The Commerce of Colonial Philadelphia, at Yale University. They are chiefly maps, views, and miscellaneous items
concerning Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Philadelphia (particularly street plans and environs), the Carolinas, New England,
Virgina, and other regions, with special reference to the local trading area of Philadelphia.
Series 3: Clippings contains a book of clippings from the Georgia Alumni Record, and newspaper clippings concerning current
events in the 19th century.

The collection consists of photostats of University of Georgia related land documents from the 18th and 19th centuries. The
collection also includes the University of Georgia report card of E.R. Harden dated April 19, 1831; correspondence from Asbury
Hull to Governor McDonald dated January 6, 1842; correspondence to James D. Pittard dated July 13, 1868; and a certificate
presented to the University of Georgia for the establishment and operation of a unit of the Students Army Training Corps during
World War I.

The collection consists of writings, printed material, maps, clippings, photographs and artifacts. This collection also includes
material from Dr. Goff's research including preliminary notes for articles, working copies of Georgia county maps, and the
incomplete manuscript for "Off to Alabama." Dr. Goff asked Hemperley to complete some of his writings and this collection
contains research and notes pertaining to this project. Aslo included are stone fragments, pottery fragments, 18th century
nails, Civil War bullets, and a 19th century brass spike.
Georgia maps stamped "Dr. John H. Goff Collection" were removed from this collection and added to the county map folders in
the Hargrett Library Map Collection.
