Bell's letter of 31 October 1857 to Mollie is particularly filled with Atlanta happenings including Willis Westmoreland's ball at the Trout House. Two envelopes and one postcard accompany the four letters.

The collection consists mostly of the writings and correspondence of John R. Woodward. Many of the writings are stories about dogs. Also included are photographs and photo negatives of dogs, as well as additional printed materials containing stories by Woodward. In this preliminary sorting the correspondence, both business and personal, is arranged chronologically. The news articles "ABOUT DOGS" were destroyed, but they can be found in either the Georgian-American, Atlanta Journal or The Atlanta Constitution. Most of the writings are stories about dogs. The miscellaneous material consists of dog photographs and printed materials containing stories by Woodward. Photo negatives of dogs are also included in this collection.

The collection consists of letters, written mainly by William C. Goggans and family, during the American Civil War, 1861-1865. Correspondences discuss army camp life, conditions and war news, and the wartime economy and psychology. Goggans wrote from camps in Richmond, Fredericksburg, James River, Cumberland Gap, Camp Jackson (Martinsburg), and Smithfield in Virginia; Milledgeville and Augusta, Georgia; and Meridian, Mississippi. Also contained in the collection is a letter from J. B. Walton to the General Commander, U.S. Forces at Savannah, Georgia, and Confederate civilian letters. Transcriptions of the letters are also included (2003).
