1 Title:   J. B. Preston extension tobacco agronomist papers  Requires cookie*
  Creator:   Preston, J. B.
  Dates:   1946-1966
  Contents:
The collection chiefly consists of bound volumes of Preston's correspondence and various reports relating to the development of the post-war tobacco industry in Georgia. Reports and correspondence have often been intermingled within a bound volume. Because the collection reflects daily activities so thoroughly, it provides a unique view of the operations of Mr. Preston's office during an important phase in agricultural modernization in the state. Through its pages one can see how the agricultural work of the Coastal Plain Experiment Station, as documented in the book The UGA Coastal Plain Experiment Station...The First 75 Years by Max Bass, was carried to practicing farmers and the tobacco industry.

There is also a document box which houses a scrapbook of appreciation and a second clipping and photo scrapbook encompassing the years 1949-1967. Finally, an 11th box has been appended to the Rogers papers. This box, dealing with the Atlanta Division of the University of Georgia (today, Georgia State University), embraces records from 1947 through 1956, though the heart of the material again locates temporally in the tenure of Rogers as the President of the University of Georgia. This box may house materials of interest to researchers of the presidential tenures of Harmon W. Caldwell and Omer C. Aderhold as well.

5 Title:   Harmon Caldwell papers  Requires cookie*
  Creator:   Caldwell, Harmon White
  Dates:   1916-1991
  Contents:
The collection consists of correspondence, financial papers, photographs, speeches and writings, and printed material arranged in alphabetical order by name or subject. Although the bulk of the material concerns Caldwell's career, some are paersonal and family papers and consist of correspondence with his parents, his brother Alvin, and various aunts, uncles and cousins, including Hattie Dunlop who apparently suffered from paranoia. The farm papers deal with a house and land in Meriwether County that had been in the Caldwell family for many years. Caldwell took it over in 1940, made many improvements, and considered it his legal residence. Boxes 48-50 contain Caldwell's personal financial papers. Of special interest are the Board of Regents papers; Walter Cocking controversy, Ty Cobb and the Cobb Educational Foundation; Berry College papers; the Wallace Butts football scandal; and the papers of the colleges and universities in the University System of Georgia with their various achievements or problems. Correspondents include Omer Clyde Aderhold, Walter Blackstock, Callaway family (Pine Mountain, Ga.), Lamar Dodd, Stewart Gelders, Hodgson family (Athens, Ga.), Joseph Winthrop Holley, John Alton Hosch, Lucy Stanley MacArthur, Moina Michael, Jonathan Clark Rogers, Steadman Vincent Sanford, Hughes Spalding, and Herman Talmadge.
