The collection consists of correspondence between Butcher and death row inmates James W. Brown and Norman Richard Cleary, from 2000-2004. Correspondence concerns personal interests, family, activities in prison, lawyers, trials, other death row inmates, hobbies. Cleary writes several letters about God, Christianity, and another death row inmate's attempt to stab him. There are also emails between Butcher, family members of the inmates; and letters Butcher writes asking for clemency for both inmates. Papers also include offender queries printed from the Georgia Department of Corrections and Oklahoma Department of Corrections, containing Brown's and Cleary's physical descriptions and sentence details; newspaper clippings regarding the executions, and various prison forms; and documents concerning the execution process, and rules and regulations of visiting death row inmates.

A single letter from Julia Evans Cope to the Georgia General Assembly addressing the topic of capital punishment in the state. Cope is writing in support of the the bill to abolish capital punishment put forward by Representatives Viola Ross Napier of Bibb County and John Stephens Wood of Fulton County. At the time of the letter the bill was pending before the House Judiciary Committee. Also included is a photocopy of Cope's obituary from The Atlanta Constitution, dated 1929 March 6.

The collection consists of copies of documents, textual and audio, accumulated during Thomas M. West's successful challenge - in the case of Timothy Dawson vs. The State of Georgia - to the state of Georgia's law prescribing death by electrocution in the electric chair in death penalty cases. This includes fifteen digital copies of 22 Georgia electrocutions of prisoners between 1983 and 1996. These recordings are copies of West's tapes which were themselves dubs of original tapes recorded by members of the state's Department of Corrections for their own records, and later subpoenaed and entered into state court records as part of challenges to the electric chair statute. In addition, the collection includes copies of materials (transcripts, documents, affidavits, autopsy records, etc.) West and his co-counsel Robert Citronberg had accumulated to date of donation (August 2004) in support of legal challenges to the Georgia statute prescribing lethal injection as the new means of state execution.

The correspondence is primarily between Carl Isaacs, Donald E. Wilkes, Jr., and Christopher Hamilton. Court documents include petitions, habeas corpus applications, subpoenas, and motions. Press materials document the proceedings from the pretrial period until after conviction. A poster about the Alday family murders from a special series in the Atlanta Journal and two t-shirts with pro-electric chair messages are also included.

Also included are documents relating to the Center's efforts to advocate the reform of Habeas Corpus legislation, subject files consisting of newspaper articles on the death penalty and criminal justice, and research files concerning racial discrimination in jury selection.
