Papers document Judge Morgan's thirty-five-year judicial career with the United States District Court, 1961-1968, and the United States Fifth and Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, 1968-1996. Includes case files (typically opinions, briefs, judicial memoranda, reports, administrative forms and correspondence), dockets, bench books, case indexes, correspondence, printed opinions, committee files, charge books and notes, newsclippings, photographs, and maps. Of note are Judge Morgan's files relating to highly publicized cases, such as Wallace Butts v. Curtis Publishing Company, civil rights cases heard in District Court in Georgia and the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits, and materials relating to the split of the Fifth Circuit into the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits in 1981.

Hannan followed up A Chaplain's Story with Rhodesia Unafraid, produced at the bequest of the Rhodesian Army as part of a larger propaganda effort to garner support for the Rhodesian government.

Charlayne Hunter-Gault is a journalist and former correspondent for National Public Radio and CNN. In 1961 she and Hamilton Holmes became the first African Americans to attend the University of Georgia. Hunter-Gault has spent much of her career as a foreign correspondent, where she covered the fall and aftermath of apartheid in South Africa, as well as other political developments in Africa, the Middle East, and the Caribbean. She has been awarded a Peabody award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism and was named Journalist of the Year by the National Association of Black Journalists in 1986, among numerous other honors. This collection documents her experience as one the first two African American students at the University of Georgia and her career in journalism.

The Sidney Pike papers document the television broadcasting career of Pike at WBZ-TV, WHDH-TV, ABC, WQXI-TV, Channel 17, WTBS, and CNN. The collection includes scripts, correspondence, photographs, film public domain research files, clippings, and marketing material. The WBZ-TV files include scripts from the Bosco Roundup program, B. A. Rolfe's Storytime, 2000 A.D., and the Mental Health and Let Freedom Ring campaigns. The WDHD-TV series primarily documents "The American Way of Life" Brazil exchange project. The Brazil Project was a series of five programs about an average American family, which were shown on Channel 9, Sao Paulo, Brazil. The series was also translated and shown in Japan by the United States Information Agency. The majority of the collection documents Pike's career working with Ted Turner, first at Channel 17 (WTCG), then WTBS international sales, and finally retiring as President of CNN Special Projects. The personal papers primarily document Pike's activities as chairman of the board for NETO (National Education Telecommunications Organization) and the International Foundation for Global Studies.

This collection includes clippings, correspondence, genealogical files, articles, notes, interviews, transcripts, photographs, and writings, gathered by Joan Titus, relating to Lillian Smith's life and legacy. The correspondence relates to Laural Falls Camp, South Today, Lillian Smith's publications and events, and letters received by Joan Titus regarding Smith. There are several folders of audience reaction cards from screenings of Miss Smith of Georgia from 1964 and 1966. Also included in this collection are interviews conducted by Joan Titus in March 1962 with Atlanta civic and political leaders, including Ivan Allan, William Hartsfield, Martin Luther King, Jr., Lorimer Douglas Milton, and Reverend Williams Holmes Borders, regarding African American business leaders. Also in March 1962, Titus interviewed Dr. Robert Coles, a child psychiatrist, about the effect of school desegregation on children. Excerpts of the Coles interview were used in Time-Life's radio program "The Children Should be Heard".

The collection consists of the papers of Rodney M. Cook from 1951 to 1978. The political series (1951-1978) contains papers relating to Cook's campaigns for public office including the Atlanta Board of Aldermen (1961, 1965), Atlanta Mayor (1969), Georgia Legislature (1965-1970), Congress (1972), and Georgia Governor (1978). The series also contains records relating to Cook's involvement with Republican Party activities at the local, state, and national level. The Aldermen series (1951-1972) documents Cook's service on the Atlanta Board of Aldermen. Records include subject files and committee files relating to such subjects as civil rights, Atlanta government, urban renewal, and zoning. The collection consists of eleven commercially-released interviews of Dean Rusk conducted in 1987 by Edwin Newman for the Southern Center for International Studies and one copy of The Seventh Annual Report of the Secretaries of State, 1989: "American Foreign Policy: The Challenges, The Opportunities, The Dangers." In the interviews, Rusk discusses growing up in Georgia, his experiences in the State Department, and his views on the war in Vietnam, the Nuclear Age, and U.S.-Soviet relations throughout the Cold War. The Seventh Annual Report of the Secretaries of State includes a roundtable discussion by former U.S. Secretaries of State on the subjects of East Germany, the Cold War, the Soviet Union under Mikhail Gorbachev, Nuclear Proliferation, and the Tiananmen Square incident in China.

The Georgia Environmental Oral History Project was started in 2013 via a partnership between the Russell Library and Betsy Bean. The project documents the forces that have shaped and are currently shaping the Georgia landscape, including such topics as environmental activism (with a focus on grassroots activism), legislation related to environmental issues, the environmental history of the Georgia coast, the interplay between conservation, industry, and tourism, the politics of "sustainability," and the relationship between environmental issues and public safety. Early interviews focus on Brunswick and Glynn County including numerous Superfund sites, the development issues surrounding St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island, and the challenges of protecting coastal marshlands.
