Positions include member of the Board of Trustees of The University of Georgia, Consult to Antwerp Belgium or Lyons France, Commissioner for the Paris Exposition from the state of Georgia, positions in the Philippines, Director of the Census of the Philippines Islands, and Consul General to Shanghai, China. The collection also includes Legislative tickets (Railroad passes), membership cards, invitations, two photographs, Johnson's passport, and a sympathy letter regarding Johnson's death.

The collection consists of ephemera and memorabilia related to Athens, Georgia. The collection includes: an acorn from the Spanish Oak at the Botanical Garden, developed by University of Georgia Professor Mathus Ward near Finley Street in Athens; gavel made from baluster of the Crawford W. Long House, Waddell Street, in Athens; badge celebrating the 47th Annual Session of the Georgia Grand Lodge, Knights of Pythias meeting in Athens 17-18 May 1916; green glass grape from lamp in the Costa building; wooden shingle from the roof of the present Garden Club of Georgia Headquarters, formerly Phi Mu House and home of Mary Lyndon, first dean of women at the University of Georgia.

The collection consists of writings, printed material, maps, clippings, photographs and artifacts. This collection also includes material from Dr. Goff's research including preliminary notes for articles, working copies of Georgia county maps, and the incomplete manuscript for "Off to Alabama." Dr. Goff asked Hemperley to complete some of his writings and this collection contains research and notes pertaining to this project. Aslo included are stone fragments, pottery fragments, 18th century nails, Civil War bullets, and a 19th century brass spike. Georgia maps stamped "Dr. John H. Goff Collection" were removed from this collection and added to the county map folders in the Hargrett Library Map Collection.
