Most of the publications by Ashantilly Press are represented in the collection either by unbound copies, manuscript proofs, printing expenses, or illustrations. Subjects include Ida Hilton Public Library in Darien where Frances and Natalie worked, Pape School in Savannah where Anne Lee worked as an art teacher, Florida State University where Frances worked as a librarian, First Presbyterian Church where the family attended and Bill printed the bulletins, Hofwyl-Broadfield plantation where the Dent family (friends of the Haynes') lived, other private presses, historic sites and houses in the Darien area, and the Altamaha River and its preservation. The collection consists of correspondence, wills and deeds, and accounts of various family members. There are numerous accounts of the settlement of the John Hall estate, of which James M. Hall was executor. Of special interest are the bills of sale for enslaved people, freedmen contracts, and accounts of plantation overseers [enslavers]. The accounts show the growth of the plantation, including purchase of enslaved people and supplies and land, operation of a sawmill, sales of cotton, and labor dealings with the Georgia Penitentiary after the Civil War. There is also a Civil War letter from John W. Shinholster on April 23, 1863 from his camp near Port Hudson, Louisiana.

The collection consists of documents regarding slave trade. One letter documents the sale of a enslaved man named Amos from Boze Kitchens of Sumter County to John Humphries of Jones County, Georgia. A group of three documents details the dispute of a transfer of slaves from Jones County, Georgia to Mississippi in the settlement of a debt. Included is a letter from A.H. Broach to his brother Calvin asking him to take care in the sale or resale of his former enslaved man, Peter.

The collection consists of documents pertaining to the estate of Theodore G. Sledge. Sledge died leaving behind six enslaved men and women, Maria, Lucinda, Spencer, Hester, Minerva, and Francey, and fifteen hundred and thirty six dollars of Confederate currency. Several family members sought legal action, but the case was dismissed in November 1864.

Although the document is not dated, it is believed to have originated after 1807, the year that Louis Rene Adrien Dugas de Vallon died. The document is handwritten in French.

This collection contains the business and personal records of the Hand family of Pelham, Georgia and reflects the status of South Georgia's agricultural economy from the end of Reconstruction to the early 1980s. Initial success in land speculation, farming, and timber and turpentine production during the late 19th to early 20th centuries led Judson Larrabee (J. L.) Hand to establish the Hand Trading Company, a company that would become southwest Georgia's largest mercantile business and spur his expansion into banking, railroads, textiles, and fertilizer manufacture. The collection is comprised of the deeds, financial records, and correspondence of the Hand family's many businesses; political papers relating to Frederick Barrow Hand, Sr.'s terms in the Georgia General Assembly from 1933 to 1955 and his 1954 gubernatorial primary campaign; photographs of J. L. Hand's businesses, employees, and home, as well as Fred Hand, Sr.'s political career; and Fred Hand, Sr.'s genealogical records.

This collection contains land grants, legal papers, farm records, photographs, correspondence, and artifacts documenting the history of the farm on which the Shields and Ethridge families ran from Colonial settlement through the 20th Century, including information naming enslaved persons considered property of the families. Included are plats of the farm as it grew, photographs of daily operations, business receipts reflecting the changing times, and a variety of manuals and catalogs of farm implements as the farm became more mechanized. There are many identified photographs, mainly from the 1920s, recording family trips, farm operations, and portraits.

The collection consists of the diary of Ebenezer Kellogg from 1817-1818 written to Chester Dewey, Professor of Mathmatics. Kellogg describes his journey from Williamstown, Massachusetts to Charleston, South Carolina, Savannah, Georgia, and towns along the Georgia coast. Most of the entries pertain to Georgia and discuss the people and towns Kellogg visited. Kellogg writes about plantations and farming practices, particularly cotton and rice; and slavery, including how enslaved populations lived, their treatment, and religious instruction.

The collection consists of papers of the David Crenshaw Barrow Sr. family of Lexington, Oglethorpe County, Georgia from 1817-1915. The papers include mainly correspondence, financial records, and diaries. The earliest records consist mostly of receipts and accounts of David Crenshaw Barrow, Sr. and Middleton Pope. The bulk of the correspondence (1850-1883) is between Barrow and his children David Crenshaw Barrow, Jr.; Ella Patience Barrow (Spalding); James Barrow; Lucy M. Barrow (Cobb); Middleton Pope Barrow; and Thomas A. Barrow. Some of James Barrow's correspondence was written while a cadet at West Point and then later during the Civil War serving first in Cobb's Legion in Virginia and later in the 64th Georgia Infantry Regiment in Florida. There is also an interesting set of correspondence (ca. 1850-1868) to Barrow from overseers (enslavers) at his plantations in Oglethorpe and Decatur Counties, Georgia; letters relating to his investment in a Florida salt works during the Civil War; and letters from John H. Lumpkin and William McKinley regarding the secession of Georgia. The collection also includes diaries (1851-1852, 1856-1858, 1876, 1879) of David Crenshaw Barrow, Sr. mostly detailing farm and family life and diaries (1868, 1875) of Clara E. Barrow discussing school and social activities.

The collection consists of papers of Howell Cobb and the Cobb family from 1793 to 1932. The bulk of the collection is correspondence, mostly addressed to Howell Cobb, dating from 1839 to 1868. There is a large amount of correspondence between Howell Cobb, his wife Mary Ann Lamar, and her brother John B. Lamar. The letters discuss politics in both Georgia and the United States, the Confederate States of America including its formation and administration, and information on Cobb's business interests, especially his plantations (and the lives of enslaved persons therein). After Cobb's death in 1868, the remainder of the correspondence is between other family members including John A. Cobb, Howell Cobb, Jr., Alexander Erwin, and Mary Erwin discussing family and social news, business interests, and legal cases. While the correspondence primarily documents the Cobb, Lamar, Erwin, and Barrow faimilies, there is also a large amount of correspondence from the Jackson, Hull, Rootes, Lumpkin, King, Pope, Rutherford, Prince, and Nisbet families. The earliest material includes indentures and land grants (1793-1829) relating to Zachariah Lamar's business interests. The clippings do not focus on Howell Cobb, with the very rare exception. These seem to have been donated by family but are very general in nature. The journals and diaries are from family members and friends.

The collection consists of the papers of Mack F. Mattingly from 1956 to 2023, including correspondence, clippings, press releases, speeches, printed materials, photographs, audiotapes, and videotapes. The press files include mainly speeches, press releases, and clippings. Records relating to office administration contain telelphone logs, appointment books, schedule books, guest books, accepted and declined invitations files, files of office staff, and general files that consist of weekly and monthly reports from regional representatives in Georgia. The legislative files include subject files pertaining to legislation being considered by Congress, bill files, Mattingly's voting records from 1981 through 1987, and his personal legislative files, which contain legislative topics of particular interest to the Senator. These materials document Mattingly's work on legislation relating to the line-item veto, anti-drug measures, tax policy, trade policy, agriculture policy, and the conservative economic and federal defense budget policy. Of particular interest are records relating to Mattingly's work as chair of the Subcommittee on Military Construction Appropriations, which included aid to the "Contras" in Nicaragua, his tenure on the Ethics Committee while it investigated the ABSCAM bribery scandal, and legislation that reduced expenditures on consultants and studies by the government. The records of the constituent services staff consist primarily of issue correspondence containing information on constituents' views and questions about current events or public issues. The scrapbooks (1979-1985) were compiled by the Senator's family and staff which record highlights of the Senator's political career and campaigns. Also included are journals and letters written by Carolyn Mattingly.
