The bulk of the collection contains scrapbooks (1875-1899) of clippings documenting Fleming's activities, speeches, and political career. The correspondence (1902, 1910-1912) pertains to the contested Tenth District election of 1902 between Fleming and Thomas W. Hardwick, and the stolen fi fas (tax executions) from the Office of the Washington County Ordinary. Correspondents include James Barrett, T.J. Holmes, and Thomas E. Watson.

The collection consists of papers of Frederick William Benteen from 1833-1951. The collection contains a variety of material mainly relating to Benteen's service in the 7th U.S. Cavalry and, in particular, his involvement in the Battle of Little Big Horn. Includes correspondence (1871-1888) from Benteen in the Montana territory, Kansas, and Nebraska, to his wife, Catherine L. Benteen; a map drawn by Benteen of the Little Big Horn battlefield; some official military documents including the draft and revised draft (July 4, 1876) of Major Marcus A. Reno regarding George A. Custer and the Battle of Little Big Horn; and numerous photographs of members of the 7th Cavalry, military groups and locations, including Ft. Dodge, Kansas (1868-1869), Native American leaders, and several of the Benteen family. The collection also contains some military documents relating to Benteen's service in the 10th Missouri Volunteer Cavalry during the Civil War; photocopies of correspondence from Benteen to Theodore W. Goldin regarding the 7th Cavalry; "Cavalry Scraps", articles written by Benteen regarding his cavalry service; correspondence (1929-1949) between E.A. Brinistool and various members of the Benteen family; newspaper clippings; printed material; and a scrapbook.

The collection consists of photographs of family members and military friends of Frederick W. Benteen. His commission paper is included as well. It is dated 1864 November 23 and commissions him to brigadier general. Also includes is a bound, gilt-edged album of religious pictures; the folded American flag that draped the coffin of Mrs. Anita Benteen Mitchell), Benteen's graddaughter, in 1978; and a tattered American flag that appears to be a 10th Missouri Cavalry flag, flown during the Civil War and was donated after the initial gift in 1973.

It was published by the University of Georgia Press in 1968. In addition, over 8000 manuscript sheets and cards of notes assembled for the writing of "Georgia Journeys" with Sarah Gober Temple, published in 1961.

The collection consists of correspondence concerning the re-publication of The Merit and Reward of a Good Intention, a sermon preached by William Best, D. D., before the Honourable Trustees of the Colony of Georgia in 1742. The book as reprinted contains an introduction by Phinizy Spalding, engravings and a map of the period. The collection includes many letters from William Haynes of the Ashantilly Press, as well as letters from other correspondents. The book was a winner in the 1968 Southern Books Competition.

Essay titles include: State of Matters Relative to the Defense and Loss of Charlestown; Rise, Progress and Suppression of the Massachusetts Rebellion; Causes of the Failure of the Mission to the Hostile Indians; Invalidity of the Claims of the Indians to the Grounds on Which They Hunt; Observations on the Climate & C. of the Eastern Counties; On the Religious State of the Eastern Counties; On the Migration of Fishes; Observations Founded on a Letter to Judge Lowell on the Idea that Worms in the Vegetables and Animal Bodies Were the Consequences and Not the Cause of Corruption; and Why the Indian Tribes Decrease & C. The order book contains orders written by General Benjamin Lincoln from 1779-1780. Orders mainly concern general military administration and discipline of troops. Of particular interest are orders pertaining to marches or sieges at Augusta, Georgia, Savannah, Georgia, and Charleston, South Carolina.

The collection consists of papers of James Daniel Frederick and the Frederick family from 1844-1899, 1942. The bulk of the collection consists of diaries and account books of James D. Frederick. The diaries (1844-1856 and 1873-1899) contain entries describing Frederick's student life at the University of Georgia, a few minutes and the constitution of the Washingtonian Temperance Society of Franklin College, and entries pertaining to crop conditions, weather, and farming practices for Frederick's farm in Marshallville, Macon County, Georgia. Entries for the period 1873-1889 are sparse and usually are recorded once a year. The account books (1873, 1875-1878, 1880-1882, and 1888-1892) include occasional notes but mainly record items purchased for operating the farm. The collection also contains a diary (January - April 1882) of Eugene Frederick pertaining to the operation of his farm; a typescript of THE KEENE FAMILY containing photographs, genealogical charts, and clippings; and the original mockup for THE RUMPH-FREDERICK FAMILIES including correspondence, photographs, clippings, and genealogical charts. The genealogical material was collected by Louise Frederick Hays.
