Frederick W. Benteen collection addendum, 1833-1978

The collection consists of photographs of family members and military friends of Frederick W. Benteen. His commission paper is included as well. It is dated 1864 November 23 and commissions him to brigadier general. Also includes is a bound, gilt-edged album of religious pictures; the folded American flag that draped the coffin of Mrs. Anita Benteen Mitchell), Benteen's graddaughter, in 1978; and a tattered American flag that appears to be a 10th Missouri Cavalry flag, flown during the Civil War and was donated after the initial gift in 1973.

The collection consists of writings, printed material, maps, clippings, photographs and artifacts. This collection also includes material from Dr. Goff's research including preliminary notes for articles, working copies of Georgia county maps, and the incomplete manuscript for "Off to Alabama." Dr. Goff asked Hemperley to complete some of his writings and this collection contains research and notes pertaining to this project. Aslo included are stone fragments, pottery fragments, 18th century nails, Civil War bullets, and a 19th century brass spike.

Abstract Or Scope:

The Georgia Center for Continuing Education and Hotel records consists of photographic materials, subject files and artifacts dating from 1950 through 2004. The photographic materials include numerous event, staff, hotel and restaurant pictures from the 1970s through 2004. Of particular interest are the historical photographs from the 1950s and 1960s including pictures of John and Robert Kennedy's visits to the Center. There also are subject files relating to the daily functioning of the Center and hotel in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s along with early planning materials from the 1950s and 1960s. Lastly, the artifacts include a banner, plaques and plates from the 1990s.

British music hall postcard collection, circa 1900-1930

The collection consists of 160 picture postcards of 118 music hall artists. Of these 64 are signed, several with personal inscriptions to fellow performers: Mr. and Mrs. Nat Clifford, Lally Clifford, and Harry Banford. Some of the notable actors are Vesta Tilley, Hetty King, and Little Tich. There are two contracts between Harry Banford, acting as agent for the Theatre Royal, Guildford, and the Brothers Ford (1914). Also, six playbills describe variety bills featuring Harry Banford and lesser known performers.
