This collection contains two letters regarding the use of convicts for labor. One letter describes a prisoner, Floyd Clements, working out his sentence in the household for J.L. Roberston. The other letter is a petition from Robert E. Park to the Georgia State Legislature making the case for using convicts to dig canals to drain the swamps of Southern Georgia in order to create farm land.

The collection consists of three letters from Ulrich Bonnell Phillips to Dr. Robert Preston Brooks (University of Georgia faculty). In his first letter, dated March, 25, 1907, Phillips suggests sources of American history, England during the colonial period, and "the colonies of South Carolina, Georgia, Barbados and Jamaica as a group." Letters dated October 5, 1907 and February 11, 1908 are more personal in nature. Phillips responds to questions Brooks asked in previous letters, and suggests sources of Georgia history, their locations and use.

The letters begin in September 1918 and continue after the war when "Mog" went to work in Detroit. Many of the letters are undated, and the full name of "Mog" is never given.
