The collection consists of papers of John A. Rockwell from 1866 to 1872, mainly correspondence written by Rockwell to his brother, Alfred P. Rockwell. The letters detail John Rockwell's activities as General Superintendent of the American Missionary Association for Middle and Southwest Georgia. Topics discussed include the establishment of schools for freedmen, financial matters, and funding of various projects. Also contained in the collection are a few letters from John Rockwell to Rev. Edward P. Smith which discuss the establishment of a trust fund with a loan from Alfred Rockwell.

The collection consists of a letter, dated March 17, 1875, written by John A. Stevenson in Savannah, Georgia to a relative in Pennsylvania. He recounts the events of his life since leaving Philadelphia in 1840, including his move to Charleston, South Carolina, where he married, to Savannah, where he became a slave trader. Accompanying the letter is a note from H. H. DeLeon from Charleston, SC, June 10, 1890, concerning property he purchased at auction.

The papers relate to John Beard as U.S. Marshal for the District of East Florida from 1843 to 1852. The letters concern mostly land claims and pension requests. Of particular interest are a letter from Beard to George R. Fairbanks, dated February 7, 1847, discussing the sale of land in East Florida, the benefits derived from the sale, and the disorganization of the land sales process and an 1882 letter from Mary Elizabeth (Mrs. J. J.) Dickison to George R. Fairbanks discussing matters relating to the Civil War in Florida.

The collection consists of two letters: dated Louisville, November 20, 1796, to George Jones, Savannah, signed John Berrien, regarding survey and purchase of land; dated Louisville, March 19, 1799, to Charles Harris, Savannah, signed John Berrien, regarding some land to be sold for taxes, and inviting Mr. and Mrs. Harris to visit. The collection also includes an explanatory note.

The collection consists of one typewritten letter: dated Atlanta, Georgia, "My Dear Miss Frierson," signed "J. B. Gordon," regarding Frierson's support during Gordon's campaign.

The collection consists of a plantation book of John B. Lamar, for his plantation in Sumter County, Georgia, from 1847-1880.

The collection consists of a letter (two pages plus address leaf) dated 27 November 1844 in which Rev. John B. Ross of Savannah writes U. S. Hope of the Education Rooms, Philadelphia. Rev. Ross expresses his displeasure at the apparent difficulty of Hope to correct Ross' change of address on his subscription to "The Presbyterian." Other financial matters relating to the periodical and Mr. Martien, its publisher, are also mentioned.

The collection primarily consists of correspondence from John Brown Gordon to Henry Faison Emery of Atlanta, Georgia from 1901-1903. The letters discuss Atlanta taxes, land in Georgia, Florida land speculation, and business interests. The collection also contains one letter from Emery to Gordon discussing taxes Gordon owed on property in Georgia.

The collection consists of one letter: dated Columbus, February 4, 1846, "Dear Sirs," (Messrs. John P. Savage, Francis P. Stubbs, and John Boozer of Oglethorpe University at Milledgeville, Georgia), regarding the Phi Delta Society.

The collection consists of a handwritten oration made to the Demosthenian Society of the University of Georgia on duty. The oration was given by John Calhoun Stanford, probably in the 1870s.
